In the final over of the Renegades innings, Adam Zampa was bowling to Mackenzie Harvey, when in the fifth ball of the over, non-striker batsman Tom Rogers got out from his crease. In his bowling stride, the Australian leg spinner stopped midway and returned to dislodge the bails at the non-striker's end.

Adam Zampa has had a manic last few months. Since August, he’s featured in a tour to India, home series against West Indies and England and a T20 World Cup for Australia, and, away from the national side, in The Hundred, the Sheffield Shield, the Big Bash League, and now the ILT20. He is aware that 2023 is going to be “pretty crazy”: between all the globe-trotting leading up to the ODI World Cup, Zampa is also hoping to squeeze in some time on his lawn mower in Byron Bay. Say hello to Zampa, modern cricket’s self-evolving, world-circling, league-tasting artist. He loves his job – it’s forever at the forefront of his mind – he’s really good at it, but he is also cognizant of the challenges it throws up, juggling priorities to be with family and taking care of himself. By now, Zampa’s status as a white-ball titan is secure. Australia’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is, he also has the most ODI wickets for them since his debut and is currently in the top 10 of the ICC’s bowling rankings for both limited-overs formats. Only Shane Warne and Brad Hogg have taken more wickets among Australian ODI spinners. Ask him what has made him one of the best in the world, and he cites his unending appetite to learn and grow. “I’ve been through ups and downs like anyone does in their career,” Zampa tells Wisden.com in Dubai at the International League T20. “I think my ability to develop each year, whether it be working on something in my bowling action, whether it be taking my game to the next ...

Adam Zampa eyes Test debut as Sheffield Shield return confirmed

With the Aussies set to do battle with the West Indies in the first Test beginning on Wednesday, Zampa will be plying his trade for NSW in what will be the leg-spinner's first Shield game since 2019. The 30-year-old has become Australia's premier white-ball spinner in recent years, Zampa's first-class record doesn't jump off the page, but his continued growth and maturity within the national team set-up will bode well for his chances of a Baggy Green when Australia tour India in February. MORE: Speaking to Fox Cricketlast week, Zampa spoke of his desire to take his game to the next level in the Test arena. “My dream is still to play Test cricket,” he said. “I feel like my game has evolved enough in the last few years. It’s just about seeing the workloads and how my body will cope really. “I’d love to throw my hat in the ring.” Zampa's busy white-ball schedule for both Australia and in domestic T20 leagues has seen him miss out on Shield cricket for the past few years, but his return for the Blues could be a sign of things to come. Australia have used NSW head of elite male cricket Michael Klinger believes the experienced Zampa will bring plenty to the NSW outfit in a must-win match with Victoria. “It’s rare that Adam is available for Sheffield Shield, given his taxing white ball schedule but he has this week free and has always maintained his desire to play red-ball cricket,” he said, “For us to be able to bring in a player of his calibre and experience is a welcome one. Adam Zampa Profile

An energetic and competitive legspinner, Adam Zampa emerged in Australia's limited-overs squads in 2016 after a successful summer for South Australia and the Melbourne Stars. In T20, especially, he has proven a hard man to get away, with subtle changes of pace and variations, including a wrong'un and straight ball making up for a lack of prodigious turn. He's a (mullet-wearing) colourful character off the field, but in contrast, his bowling, focusing on control, is clinical. He took five wickets at an economy of 6.27 in the 2016 T20 World Cup, and a six-for in the IPL that followed, but it took Zampa a while to cement his place in the Australian ODI and T20I teams. He finally became an Australia regular in 2019, playing every game on the successful tours of India and the UAE and bedding down his place for that year's World Cup squad. He became their leading white-ball spinner and was a key figure in Australia's T20 World Cup triumph in 2021, finishing second on the wickets chart with 13 from seven games at an economy of 5.81. His white-ball success has curbed his opportunities at first-class level. Zampa's father, Darren, played for New South Wales Country and Zampa also began his career in his home state, debuting for New South Wales in 2012-13 before moving to South Australia the following year. He returned to Sydney for the 2020-2021 season in the hope of more first-class opportunities. Format Mat Inns Balls Runs Wkts BBI BBM Ave Econ SR 4w 5w 10w ODI 79 79 4122 3729 13...

Renegades claim bragging rights in drama-filled derby Adam Zampa admits he may need to practice his 'Mankad' technique but has let it be known that he won't tolerate batters trying to gain an advantage at the non-striker's end. The Stars captain turned sections of a home MCG crowd against him in a drama-filled Melbourne derby with an attempted run out of Renegades quick Tom Rogers at the non-strikers end in the final over of the first innings. After conceding two runs to long on off the blade of Mackenzie Harvey, a frustrated Zampa was halfway through his bowling action for the next delivery when he stopped, turned around and removed the bails with Rogers out of his ground. High drama as Zampa's 'Mankad' called not out The decision was sent upstairs by umpire Gerard Abood before being adjudged not out as Zampa's arm had passed its highest point where he would reasonably be expected to release the ball, meaning under Law 38.3.1 he was no longer entitled to attempt a run out at the non-striker's end. But some fans in the 38,564-strong crowd certainly made their feelings known throughout the rest of the match with the NSW leg-spinner booed at the halfway mark and when he came out to bat in the final three overs of the innings. The bowler is *not* entitled to go all the way around in the bowling action and then run the non-striker out. (2/2) You can read the Laws of Cricket in full: "First time I've seen the home captain booed (at the MCG), so that wasn't ideal," opposition sk...
