“A malware attack was detected at 1450 hrs by the cyber security system in AIIMS. The attempt was successfully thwarted and the threat was neutralised by the deployed cyber security systems. The e-hospital services remain fully secure and are functioning normally,” AIIMS said in a statement. AIIMS spokesperson Rima Dada told this newspaper that the cyber incident was neutralised by the AIIMS cyber security team. “No loss of patient data. Other sensitive records were found affected during the security breach. The digital services were not working for short a time but was restored by our team,” she said. Union Minister of State for Electronics & Technology, Rajeev Chandrashekhar claimed that there was no cyber incident or breach in AIIMS server. “Someone may have tried accessing this portal and alert generated due to security layer used by AIIMS,” he said. AIIMS Delhi cyber attack originated from China, five servers retrieved: Report

The attack on the computer server of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi was carried out by Chinese hackers, a senior government source said on Wednesday adding that data in the five servers have been successfully retrieved now. AIIMS ransomware attack: Read the document government issued to officials in August

All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) is still recovering from the cyberattack it reported almost two weeks ago. While the authorities are sanitising the servers and computers, a circular has revealed that officials of one of the country's apex health institutions were directed to implement cybersecurity policies issued by the government. In a circular dated August 16, concerned officials were directed to comply with cyber security policies issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The Earlier this year, it was reported that AIIMS, Delhi decided to go paperless from January 1, 2023, and would implement an e-Hospital programme. The programme will have services like automated emails to doctors, ABHA IDs for all patients, doctor-specific OPD appointments, among others. To enforce the same, a demonstration of e-Hospital modules was also carried out on October 17 by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) team. Meanwhile, two systems analysts are learnt to have been suspended on Monday for not responding to phone calls and not attending an emergency meeting on November 23, when the cyber attack took place. The duo were issued showcause notices on November 24, and told to file their written replies the same evening. The showcause notice issued to one of the analysts, who is learnt to have been on leave at the time, mentioned that the official was contacted on phone, but did not respond. The notice, seen by Sources said the second showcause notice was similar in content. While hospital services have been operating in manual mode since the cyber attack, a team of experts from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in) and National Informatics Centre (NIC) are working on restoring digital services. Significantly, sources said that besides the servers, the AIIMS network and its computers are “also vulnerable”. Therefore, following the advice of CERT-in, AIIMS internet and AIIMS intranet have been discontinued and “their vulnerabilities are being addressed”, said sources. “AIIMS has about 10,000 computers and not all of them have updated anti-virus applications.
