To find out about this and other military museums in India, visit Tripoto's Naval Aircraft Museum, Kolkata Envisioning to build attraction zones near the Kolkata gate at New Town, KMDA had initiated this military aircraft exhibition in a sprawling 2 acre land beside the New Town Police Station. Initially expected to open for public around mid 2020, the project was delayed due to pandemic and subsequent lockdown. Finally Chief Minister, Smt Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the museum on 9th of June, 2022. The "Bear" A decommissioned Tupolev Tu-142M maritime reconnaissance aircraft was brought in pieces from INS Rajali, Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu, on sixteen trucks. The Bengal government, in order to increase interest in forces, planned to come up with an Aircraft Museum and wanted ‘Tupolev’, which served the Indian Navy for the last 35 years, to start the museum. The naval forces, after a request from the government, sent the aircraft and the museum was built over a time span of 3 years. Debasish Sen, chairman of HIDCO said, “We want to develop interest for the young generation to get into forces and Tu 142 was serving Indian Navy a few years back also. We thought of showing civilians how difficult our soldiers stay and protect our country. We really worked hard on this project. We are getting a good response.”
