Extra cover in Ajmer for Urs; Pakistani delegation will reach tomorrow

AJMER: Ahead of the likely visit of a Pakistani delegation here on January 25 to participate in the 811 yearly Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty, security agencies on Monday inspected Ajmer railway station with a dog squad. The delegation will reach the station through Atari border by train and at that time, it will be closed for other passengers. Teams of Government Railway Force (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and state CID searched the railway station. A team of Rajasthan police also checked security measures at the bus stand, Kayar Vishram Sthali and other parts of the city. As per the schedule of the Pakistani delegation, the team of central force will hand over the delegation to local police and state CID. Then they will be taken to Central Girls' School of Naya Bazaar for stay. The school will remain closed amid tight security so that no one can enter or move out without permission. Looking at the large number of devotees coming to attend the Urs, the district police official has deputed 4,600 jawans. SP Ajmer Chuna Ram Jat said all security measures are being tightened. Dargah police on Monday arrested 17 pickpockets from the premises of dargah and were booked under Section 151 of CRPC. Most of them are from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Malangs were an attraction for devotees as they were piercing and stabbing their mouth and tongue with knives and needles. About 4,000 Malangs and Kalangers gathered at Chilla of Gudari Shah Baba at Ghati and marched towards Delhi Gate, Dhan Mandi and dargah Bazaar and offered incense sticks in the dargah, "This is an important ritual of the beginning of Urs of Sufi Khwaja Moinuddin," said Syed Qutabbidin Sakhi, khadim of the dargah. There were Malangs from West Bengal, Gujarat, Bihar, Maharashtra and many other states wearing black clothes with long beard and hairs carrying different flags of their dargahs. The annual Urs of Khwaja Moinddun Chisty started as the 'jannati darwaza' opened on this occasion. Meanwhile, the district administration deployed extra forces to tackle law and order in case the situation erupted. Ajmer SP Vikas Sharma directed police personnel to ensure that Covid guidelnes were being followed. Police have been deployed at Kayar Vishram Sthali where buses are coming and devotees are staying.
