(EEL), in Maharashtra's Nagpur on Saturday, where he watched a demonstration firing of the indigenous 30mm ammunition being supplied to the Indian Navy. He also observed a test firing of the smallest rocket motor currently under development at EEL, which will enhance the Counter Drone System's capabilities with both hard kill and soft kill functions. The CDS was also shown the lethality test of the warhead for the recently developed Loitering Munition System. ALSO READ | During his tour, the CDS received an overview of EEL's facilities related to manufacturing, performance testing, environmental testing, shelf-life assessment, and integration of various munitions. The Government of India on Wednesday, September 28, announced that Lt General Anil Chauhan (Retired) PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM has been appointed as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Lt Gen Chauhan, by virtue of his position as the CDS, will also function as Secretary to Government of India, Department of Military Affairs. Pertinently, a few months back, the Union Defence Ministry had ammended rules for the appointment of the CDS. As per the new rules, the Central Government may consider officers who are serving as Lt General equivalent or General equivalent or officers who have retired in the rank of Lt General or General but have not attained the age of 62 years on the date of appointment, for the position of the CDS. The position of CDS had been lying vacant ever since the unfortunate demise of General Bipin Rawat in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor on December 8, 2021. In his maiden tour outside the country, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan will embark on a four-day visit to the US starting from Saturday. CDS Chauhan will be attending a conference on the Indo-Pacific region and also interact with top military officers from global military powers such as the US, Japan, Australia and the UK. This is the first time after taking over as the CDS in October that General Anil Chauhan is visiting any friendly foreign country.
