Anne Hathaway is organizing the 2024 RNC in Milwaukee

Watch Video: RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on the 2024 convention in Milwaukee Anne Hathaway is just fine being a backstage player at the highest reaches of politics and government. She cut her teeth as a top staffer to former Vice President Dan Quayle and rose in the ranks of the Republican National Committee and Indiana politics. Now, she's taking on her biggest challenge yet as chairwoman of the Committee on Arrangements for the Hathaway is responsible for organizing the big political show that will draw up to 50,000 people to Milwaukee when it unfolds, July 15-18, 2024. She was picked for the job by RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. "I love strategy," she said in an interview during a trip to Milwaukee. "I love making things happen. It's my calling." She certainly has the chops to run a convention, serving stints as an RNC regional director and chief of staff, as well as program director for the 2012 Republican Convention. Wrangling this operation will be no easy task, staging a Republican convention in a Democratic city. But as head of the RNC site selection committee, Hathaway got to know Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and others through the long bidding process. "Republican or Democrat, it became clear that Milwaukee and Wisconsin wanted this convention for economic development and for growth," she said. More: More: Hathaway currently oversees a handful of staff while commuting back-and-forth from Indianapolis. The buildout will be slow and steady and by convention t...

Anne Hathaway

Actress Anne Hathaway established her strong screen presence with breakout roles in family fare "The Princess Diaries" (2001) and "Ella Enchanted" (2004), while many of her peers were getting far more attention for their rehab and party antics. But the well-grounded, well-educated Hathaway held focus on her career, evolving into impressively three-dimensional adult roles in widely heralded films "Nicholas Nickelby" (2002), "Brokeback Mountain" (2005) and the role which proved she could more than hold her own against the greatest talents, as well as carry a film herself - "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006). Unfortunately, the accolades Hathaway received for her emotionally raw performance in the drama "Rachel Getting Married" (2008) were soon overshadowed by the arrest of her longtime boyfriend in an embarrassing embezzlement scandal. After a period of seclusion and self-reflection, the actress returned triumphant in such blockbusters as "Alice in Wonderland" (2010), "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012) and "Les Misérables" (2012). Having proven her impressive range and a flair for intelligent and unpredictably intense portrayals, Hathaway found herself fielding offers for projects of every stripe - drama, comedy, fantasy, action, or musical - as nothing seemed out of reach. ‘Ocean’s 8’ Made Us Stop #Hathahating — and Spawned the Anne Hathaway Renaissance

When we meet socialite Daphne Kluger, Anne Hathaway’s character in Ocean’s 8, the 2018 crime caper and sequel to Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s films, she’s acting as part of the host committee for the Met Gala, where the heist at the center of the film will take place. While in this instance her character is putting a reporter in their place, telling them she doesn’t know who will be dressing her for the ball yet, everything else about her character is peak Anne Hathaway — overexposed, performative, self-serious — or at least peak how we felt about Anne Hathaway throughout the majority of the 2010s. Let’s cast our minds back to the 2011 Academy Awards, when Hathaway hosted the ceremony alongside James Franco, which arguably started our souring to the actress. In her opening monologue, she was painfully exuding a try-hard theater-kid persona, to say nothing of her emotionally blank co-host, who was giving nothing but sketchy vibes (Franco would be accused of sexual misconduct by multiple young women between 2014 and 2019). The Oscars continued to be a bad omen for Hathaway. The actress won Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Fantine in Les Misérables in 2013, but her acceptance speech was seen as too earnest and inauthentic, a poor attempt at humility in the vein of Sally Field’s “you really like me” monologue that read as rehearsed. Post-Oscar, Hathaway retreated slightly from this focused spotlight, using her time as Hollywood’s fallen darling to take on smaller,...

Anne Hathaway Had Never Heard of WeWork Before Starring in 'WeCrashed'

Anne Hathaway is annoyed at herself for never having heard of a WeWork until she agreed to star in a show about it. The new WeCrashed tells the story of how WeWork grew from a hopeful idea to a company valued at $47 billion, before spectacularly crashing. Jared Leto plays the company founder Adam Neumann while Hathaway portrays his wife and business partner Rebekah Neumann. The TV show is based on the podcast series WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork, and has been adapted to TV by Lee Eisenberg and Drew Crevello. Newsweek spoke to Hathaway, Eisenberg and Crevello about the forthcoming series, which arrives on Apple TV+ on Friday, March 18. Missing the WeWork trend In less than a decade, WeWork became a business phenomenon, popping up in major cities across the globe—but the entire rise and fall passed Anne Hathaway by. "When I was offered this part I had actually never heard of a WeWork," Hathaway told Newsweek. In her defense, she had been very busy raising her kids in the 2010s instead. "The only way I can explain it is that during their key years, I had very, very young children, so I think I just wasn't as interested in the news of startups, as I was in the news of, how the heck do I do this new thing?"
