iPhone 14 Pro Max review: Apple's best gets better

Place the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max on a tripod pointed at the same still subject in broad daylight, and you'll likely see near-identical photos. This is because both devices automatically adjust ISO, shutter speed, aperture, white balance, and more to achieve what Apple's image pipeline determines is the most accurate version of that photo. This theater sign in Dollywood represents a challenge for modern cameras. The tree casts the sign in shadow, but the bright sunlit sky is shining through, and even the sign has bulbs emitting light. Both cameras performed great, and the brightness of the sky enabled a super fast shutter speed of over 1/6000 for both. See how some bulbs appear to be out in both images — this is from shooting faster than the flickering lights. The extra exposure and more saturated leaves are visible again in this theater shot. It appears that this is a result of where the Deep Fusion process is taking place, and the overall algorithm deciding to brighten up the image again mid-process. This can create better images in some instances, worse in others. This night mode comparison shows how the iPhone 13 Pro Max compensates in low light using more warmth. While the effect is pleasant, and we actually prefer the unedited result in the older phone, the iPhone 14 Pro Max produced less noise, more accurate colors, and didn't artificially warm the image. The battery was at 50% despite nearly six hours of photos, video, 5G networking, NFC communicati...

Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max Review: Great iPhones, Small Upgrades

Apple loves nothing more than using the word best. The new I've snapped more than 250 photos with four phones over the past few days, and last year's A few other features overshadow these cameras, like the insanely bright display, which can now always stay on, so you never have to tap the screen. The Dynamic Island, which replaces the infamous Face ID notch, is a smart and fun way to make use of dead space. But I'd go so far as to say that, more than anything else, it's feel new. Go ahead. Update the iPhone you currently own. With all the new perks the software brings, you might not feel the need to upgrade the hardware. The blank space at the top of the screen taken up by the Face ID sensor array now expands to show notifications and controls. Photograph: Apple The iPhone 14 range consists of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. I've mainly been testing the latter two (in black and “grandma purple," as my friend calls it) for the past week, but I'll be able to write up my thoughts on the cheaper iPhones soon. For what it's worth, most of the new upgrades No, it's not a button that transports you to the balmy Caribbean. It's the name for the module that houses the selfie camera and Face ID sensors. Gone is the notch in favor of a smaller pill-shaped cutout, like on a lot of It's nice that you don't need to swipe down on the Notification Center to quickly access these live activities; like the name, it's just Next, there's the always-on displ...

Apple’s stuck with the same general design language for the last couple of years, and while that may not make the iPhone 14 Pro Max a visual breakthrough, this tried-and-true design offers very little to complain about. Most smartphones today have a nice fit-and-finish, but the iPhone 14 Pro Max still feels like a step above. The iPhone 14 Pro Max still has a lightning port. Joe Maring/Digital Trends There is one design characteristic unique to the Pro Max equivalent of the iPhone 14, and that’s its size. Measuring 160.7mm tall and weighing a hefty 240 grams, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is one of the most substantial phones you can buy. As someone who generally prefers smaller phones and has spent the past year using an iPhone 13 Pro, making the jump The iPhone 14 Pro Max still feels like a step above. iPhone 14 Pro Max review

The iPhone 14 Pro Max isn’t just the most powerful phone around. It’s a joy to use, thanks to the clever new Dynamic Island for displaying notifications and live activities. Apple’s largest Pro model also delivers fantastic cameras — including a new 48MP main shooter — an always-on display, compelling Action mode for video and excellent battery life. It’s pricey, but it’s also the best phone money can buy. I also got a kick out of using the camera’s new Action mode for capturing video. Other smartphones have a similar feature, but the combination of the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s video quality and its super steady footage feels a bit like magic. Also magical is the ease with which you can switch between multiple phone numbers using this flagship’s eSIM functionality, though some will lament the utter lack of a physical SIM card tray. Once again Apple has made the fastest phone around with its A16 Bionic chip, but it’s not really about benchmarks. Instead, it’s about what this chip enables, from the always-on display to the powerful 48MP camera and what it can do. Add in extra-long battery life and you have the best iPhone you can buy as well as one of the best phones you can buy period.
