Bandipur's celebrity and the most photographed tiger, Prince is no more. The 14-year-old tiger's carcass was found on Sunday in the Kundakere Range of the National Park in Karnataka. According to sources, the post-mortem conducted found that its stomach was empty, which indicated that the death could have been due to starvation. However, according to Forest Officials, all its body parts, including claws, were intact, which puts any foul play to rest. “It was a 14 year old tiger that had lived most of its life and there were reports that it was limping and it could be a reason that it was not able to hunt. Also, Bandipur is facing the worst drought in decades and most of the prey are moving out, which obviously means that it did not have enough prey and could have succumbed to starvation,” said Bengaluru based Joseph Hoover, who is member of State Wildlife Advisory Board. He added that fortunately the tiger did not go near any human habitation as there were no reports of cattle lifting, which could have led to a conflict situation. Not worth the time and effort, buses are rattly, zypsy has to be booked in advance(48 hours), saw very few animals like deer, elephant, bison. One gets to see more deer on road side than to travel inside the bumpy ride of jungle. The guides are useless they don’t speak a word, that makes u wonder why they have suddenly stopped or why r they reversing or why they are suddenly driving Iike maniacs. In the end disappointed What a magical place!!! This forest is huge and dense but absolutely fantastic. The best part of the safari here is that it is government controlled hence limited number of vehicles are allowed, which is crucial to maintain the jungle. Being less commercial adds an extra amazing factor to this safari. Though we did not see the Tiger, we spotted a leopard, lots of spotted deer, barking deer, sambal deer, elephants, peacocks, giant wood spiders and of course loads of monkeys! We went on the evening safari and saw very little, some deer, peacocks, with the elephants and bison hiding in the bush with no clear view. Had it not been for the drove back to the hotel the safari would have rated lower and I understand it is all the luck of the draw.
