Beautiful park, a must do for anyone going between Agra and Jaipur. You will need a proper guide and take a full day to appreciate it's beautiness. We started in the morning until after sunset and used a rental bicycle to move ourselves around. An optional boat ride is also highly recommended and can be booked in the park for 700 INR. Owls, eagles, kingfisher, stork, golden ducks, eland, deer, jackal, boa and many more were easily spotted. Our guide baney guided us around for a full day and gave us good advice. I recommend. We visited on 25th Dec, Saturday which was a public holiday. Though the crowd was very heavy but nevertheless we enjoyed and spent close to 5 hours inside. 1. Serious Bird watchers/tourists should enter by 7-7.30 am when the crowd is less. After 10-11 am, crowds increase and their noise scares away birds. Getting entry tickets and rickshaws also becomes difficult and time taking. 2. Rickshaws and guides roam around near the booking counter and can be booked and paid directly. 3. Visitors can visit on foot/Official bicycls/rickshaws. There are only 2 horse drawn tongas which are difficult to find n book. Own vehicles/cycles are not allowed inside. 4. Personally, a rickshaw is the best way to tour this park as the rickshaw pullers also double up as guides and more importantly assist in bird sighting. It was a 4 hour car drive from north Delhi (without any stoppage). Road conditions are overall good because the majority of it is the Yamuna expressway. When you enter Mathura, extremely narrow and congested roads with potholes but fortunately it is a small stretch. Still try to avoid entering the city. The sanctuary entry is open only till 5pm in summer, so if you want to enjoy the sunset, make sure that you enter before 5. We decided to take a rickshaw@₹600. If you really want to view the beautiful birds, then you have to take a guide (@₹1000) so that you can get a close up via telescopic lens and binoculars. Unfortunately there is no facility for hiring binoculars at the sanctuary, so the only alternative is a guide. One can also walk or hire a cycle. Rickshaw tour took us 1.5-2 hours only. Even in peak summer we saw quite a few birds. Evening proved to be a better sighting time for us. This is a lovely, peaceful and beautiful place. We will surely be back in winters to enjoy Bharatpur in its full glory.
