Shami, Chahar, Siraj or Umesh

Shami, Chahar, Siraj or Umesh - who’ll replace Bumrah in India squad for T20 World Cup in Australia? Jasprit Bumrah is such a freak of nature, in whom nearly all of the world’s best bowling skills seem to have amalgamated, that there can be no like-for-like replacement. Published : Oct 05, 2022 21:59 IST , Indore No player in recent times has so separated India from the rest of the pack quite like Jasprit Bumrah. To say that in the era of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is an adequate enough reflection of what Bumrah means to this team. It should also reveal the enormousness of the challenge facing the think tank as it sets about replacing the 28-year-old for the ICC T20 World Cup. The third and final T20I in Indore on Tuesday, which South Africa won by 49 runs to avoid a clean sweep, offered very little cues. Three potential replacements in Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav all played. The trio bowled a combined 11 overs – across PowerPlay, middle overs and the death – and ended up conceding in excess of 11 runs per over. Rilee Rossouw (100 n.o., 48b, 7x4, 8x6) and Quinton de Kock (68, 43b, 6x4, 4x6) took full advantage of the flattest of pitches and the Holkar Stadium’s small boundaries to rack up 227 runs. India, without Kohli and KL Rahul who were both rested, played catch-up all evening, before falling short. The series, if anything, helped establish the pecking order of Bumrah’s replacements among the trio, with Chahar emerging at the top, on the virtue of h...

Mumbai yet to decide on Bumrah's replacement, Arjun Tendulkar likely to be in playing XI

Ahead of IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday said that a replacement for injured pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be decided by the team in the next few days. Bumrah has been out of action since September, 2022, due to a recurring back injury and underwent a surgery earlier this month. It will be the first time in a decade that Bumrah will not be a part of the IPL. "We have been talking about Bumrah. He is a big miss. Jasprit Bumrah's role was quite important for Mumbai Indians, it's a big shoe to fill. But it gives someone else an opportunity for the youngsters in the team to showcase their talent. We have a couple of guys who have been with this team for the last few years. They are very much ready to take the centrestage and hopefully can blood in some youngsters," he said. With no Bumrah and Jhye Richardson, Mumbai's fast-bowling stocks are thin. But the presence of England pacer Jofra Archer is something which has delighted Rohit. Archer had missed last year's season due to elbow and back injuries. "Jofra was always part of this team. Last year, he was, but was injured. We all know the quality he has. But we will sadly miss Bumrah this season. But again, a lot of opportunities are up for grabs, and if someone's missing out, then someone can fill in that place," Mumbai Indians skipper said. "We do understand how big a miss Bumrah is, but a lot of younger players will get their opportunity and this is the platform for all the young players to come out an...
