Campuses [ ] The University has two operational campuses (temporary campus and permanent campus). • The Brambe campus (temporary) is a 46 acre transit campus located about 25 kms from the heart of Ranchi city. It includes 70 independent class rooms and teaching labs, a 450-seat auditorium, research labs for sciences, engineering workshops and computer lab. The university provides on-campus accommodation to students (total capacity 1000 boys and girls in separate hostels). • The Cheri-Manatu campus (permanent) is a 500 acre campus located 17 kms from the epicenter of Ranchi city. Its infrastructure is developing rapidly. The administrative activities, undergraduate classes, and non-laboratory based departments are operational from this campus. Separate hostel for boys/girls and library are also located in this campus. The President of India gave assent to The Central Universities Act, 2009 that envisages establishing and incorporating universities for teaching and research in the various states. The Central University of Jharkhand came into being under this Act on 1st of March, 2009. The Visitor of the Central University of Jharkhand, Her Excellency, Shrimati Pratibha Devisingh Patil, appointed Dr. Darlando T. Khathing, an internationally renowned scientist and a distinguished academic administrator, as its first Vice Chancellor. CUJ’s focus will be on research in cutting-edge technologies. Vision To develop enlightened citizenship of a knowledge society for peace and prosperity of individuals, nation and the world, through promotion of innovation, creative endeavours, and scholarly inquiry. As the news of the incident spread, a large number of students gathered. They charged that "This incident happened because of the negligence of the university administration. Along with the university library, hostels and many buildings are in dilapidated condition. But even after repeated requests, the university administration did not get them repaired and finally an innocent student lost his life today."
