Conrad Kongkal Sangma Biography Conrad Kongkal Sangma is the son of the former chief minister of Meghalaya, Mr. P. A. Sangma. He became active in politics just after his completion of studies. He completed a bachelor's degree in business administration in entrepreneurial management from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his MBA in finance from Imperial College London. He started his political career by contesting in 2004 Assembly election but lost by a short margin of 182 votes. In next Assembly election held in 2008, he elected to assembly along with his brother. After the death of his father in 2016 march, he became the president of National's People's Party (NPP). Then he was elected to 16th Lok Sabha from Tura constituency. In 2018 assembly election, his party won 19 seats and formed coalition govt with other small parties and became the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. He also managed Finance Ministry portfolio. In 2023, Conrad K sworn-in as the 13th chief minister of Meghalaya for the second time, after winning the assembly election representing South Tura constituency. A number of regional parties with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) outsmarted the Congress, which had emerged as the single largest party in recently concluded polls in the race for government formation in Meghalaya. New Delhi: Conrad Sangma, Chief of the National People's Party was sworn-in as the next Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Conrad Sangma to follow 8:4 method for new Meghalaya government

By Suryagni Roy: Twelve legislators will be sworn in for the new Meghalaya Democratic Alliance 2.0 cabinet in the state. Chief Minister Conrad Sagma will have eight ministers from his single-largest National People’s Party (NPP). The eight ministers belong to the Khasi Hill region and four will be from the Garo region, as stated by Conrad Sangma, who was sworn in as the chief minister of Meghalaya for the second consecutive time on Tuesday. He further stated that two ministers will belong to the United Democratic Party (UDP), one from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the last one from the Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSDP). Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has also included senior MLA from Pynursla Prestone Tynsong and Nartiang legislator Sngiawbhalang Dhar in his new cabinet. Mawthadraishan MLA Shakliar Warjri from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party HSPDP will also get a berth in the new cabinet. The regional party UDP, on Sunday, announced its intention to join the coalition led by Conrad Sangma. The UDP, which has 11 members, was also a part of the previous MDA administration. The regional PDF, which has two MLAs, has officially backed the coalition. However, the HSPDP party president stated on Friday evening that the party would not officially support the alliance, but the two MLAs had already expressed their support individually. The Meghalaya Chief Minister serves as the state of India's Meghalaya's head of government. According to the Indian Constitution, a state's de facto executive authority is held by the chief minister, even though the governor is the de jure head of that state. The chief minister is chosen by the governor, and the assembly is ultimately in charge of his council of ministers. The chief minister's term is for five years and is unrestricted because the assembly has given him their support. Twelve people have held the position of Chief Minister of Meghalaya since 1970. Conrad moves Union Education Minister to facilitate Meghalaya students to appear in CUET

Shillong, June 14: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma has sought intervention of Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan to issue necessary direction to National Testing Agency (NTA) to make alternative arrangements for the students of Meghalaya who are appearing the CUET examination. In a letter addressed to Union Minister of Education on Wednesday, Chief Minister said that the State Government had received numerous complaints from students of Meghalaya on the allocation of CUET centres outside the State of Meghalaya. Sangma said that the students from the state are allotted centres such as Ranchi, Jharkhand, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Kolkata and other southern states of India which has left the students and their parents in disbelief and dismay. He also stated that this has caused significant inconvenience and logistical challenges for the students, who were already preparing for the examination under the assumption that the centres would be allocated closer to their home. “I am also to inform you that the admit cards were issued only in the morning of June 14 to students who will have to appear the CUET on June 16 thereby giving a very little time to make the necessary arrangements for travel and accommodation in other States,” Chief Minister said.
