Rajnath Singh is the current Defence Minister of india The Ministry of Defence is associated with co-ordinating and managing all agencies and functions of the government relating directly to national security and the Indian armed forces and has the largest budget of the federal departments of India. It is headed by the Defence Minister who is supported by a Minister of State for Defence and the lower-ranked Deputy Minister of Defence. Baldev Singh was the first Defence Minister of India. By Akshay Dongare: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday addressed a seminar, organised by the Indian Army, to mark 75 years of United Nations peacekeeping. Speaking at the event, Singh stated the need for United Nations agencies to be more democratic and more representative of "current realities". "When India, the most populous nation in the world, does not find a seat as a permanent member of the UNSC, it tends to undermine the moral legitimacy of the UN. Therefore, the time has come for making the UN bodies more democratic and representative of the current realities of our age," he said. Tribune News Service New Delhi, June 13 Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday pitched for expanding the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) with India as a permanent member, and said the time had come for making UN bodies “more democratic and representative of the current realities of our age”. Question of moral legitimacy When India, the most populous nation of the world, does not find a seat as a permanent member of the UN SC, it tends to undermine the moral legitimacy of the global organisation.
