"They Dragged Her Body For 1.5 Hours": Eyewitness On Delhi Woman's Death

New Delhi: An eyewitness of the Kanjhawala incident in Delhi where a 20-year-old woman was killed after her scooty was allegedly hit by a car and dragged for a few kilometres on Sunday, narrated the horrific ordeal. Deepak Dahiya runs a confectionery shop on Kanjhawala Road in Ladpur village. He said that the accused kept dragging the body of the woman which got entangled to their vehicle for 18 to 20 kilometres and it lasted for about one and a half hours. "It was 3:20 am...I was standing outside the shop when I heard a loud noise from a vehicle about 100 meters away. Earlier I thought it was a tire burst. As soon as the car moved, I saw a body being dragged. I informed the police immediately," Dahiya told ANI. After some time, he said around 3:30 am, the car took a u-turn and the dead body of the woman was still stuck under the vehicle. Dahiya said the accused drove repeatedly on the road of about 4-5 kilometres by taking u-turns. "I tried to stop them many times but they did not stop the vehicle. For about one and a half hours they carried the woman's body for about 20 km,' he said. Dahiya said he also chased the car with his bike and was in contact with the police. After about one and a half hours, the body fell from the car near Jyoti village on Kanjhawala Road, after which the accused fled, he said. "It could not be just an accident," Dahiya stressed. Anjali Singh, whose death has sent shockwaves across the nation, was screaming for help when she was dragged along the car, claims her friend who was with her during the accident. The friend, Nidhi, told the police that she felt hopeless and walked home. She said that once she reached home she told her mother and grandmother everything. Anjali was killed on New Year’s after her scooty was hit by a Baleno car with five men in it. Her leg got stuck in the axle of the car and she was dragged for some 12-14 kilometres. Nidhi, who was with Anjali when the car hit the scooty, revealed a lot of details to India Today. Here are some of the important things she said: • The deceased woman screamed for help and the men in the car knew that she was stuck under the vehicle, Nidhi claimed. • The women became friends only 15 days before the accident took place, she said. Anjali got in touch with Nidhi to celebrate the new year together, following which she went to Sultanpuri to pick Nidhi up. They went to Rohini, and they went to Anjali’s home. They eventually went to the hotel whose CCTV captured the women together. • The women had a fight over who would ride the scooty. In the latest development, it has come to light that the 20-year-old deceased victim along with her friend had booked a hotel. It is pertinent to note that this is the same friend who was spotted in the CCTV footage as the pillion rider moments before the accident. 'Deceased victim & friend booked hotel room': Delhi police As per the Delhi police sources, the victim and her friend identified as Nidhi had booked a hotel room, the same place where both were captured on CCTV. After the interrogation, the receptionist told the police that both the girls were asked to leave the premises as they were fighting. "The girls had booked the room and some 5 to 6 men also joined them. Both the girls then started fighting and abusing each other. People around them including our manager tried stopping them. Both of them were arguing. When the manager told them not to fight, they went downstairs and started fighting, after which both of them went on a scooty. It's not clear that someone joined them in that room," the hotel staff told Delhi police. Woman killed in Delhi after car hits scooter, drags her for 4 km

A 20-year-old woman was killed in Delhi after her scooter was hit by a car, and she was dragged by the vehicle for almost 4 km — from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala — in the early hours of Sunday. Police said the body was found almost an hour later. Police said the woman, Anjali Singh, was an event organiser and returning from work at the time. According to the police, there were five men in the car, who have been arrested. Following the incident, the accused allegedly removed the woman’s body from under the vehicle and fled the spot, the police said. The five men have been identified as Deepak Khanna (26), who drives a Gramin Sewa auto; Amit Khanna (25), who works for a nationalised bank in Uttam Nagar; Krishan (27), who worked at the Spanish Culture Centre in Connaught Place; Mithun (26), a hairdresser at a salon; and, Manoj Mittal (27), a ration dealer in Sultanpuri. They have been booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence. Police are probing whether the accused knew the victim was being dragged but didn’t stop to help her. DCP (Outer DCP Singh said: “The car was traced and its occupants were located. They said the car met with an accident in the Sultanpuri area.
