An I-know-it-looks-weird, it’s-all-just-a-misunderstanding type of situation that could put them – well, put them where? In prison? In the hospital? In the cemetery? Director Carey Williams and screenwriter K.D. Davila took their 2018 short film of the same name – which won accolades at Sundance and SXSW – and expanded it to a feature-length comedy-thriller that simultaneously bridges genres and delivers potent social commentary. EMERGENCY: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT? The Gist: Two months until graduation. Thesis time. Also, party time. Best friends and roommates Kunle (Donald Elise Watkins) and Sean (RJ Cyler) have their priorities – the former for the former, the latter for the latter. Kunle wears shirts that button up and Sean vapes away in a hoodie. They go to their Blasphemy and Taboo class and the white British lady professor lectures on the n-word – except she says it outright – and ends up putting our guys right on the spot so everyone else in the class can turn an...

Emergency movie review & film summary (2022)

"Emergency" is directed by The trio have no idea how their unwanted guest got in their house, but agree that if they call 911, they'll be blamed for whatever happened, and possibly shot by police for no reason at all (a valid fear in America), so they're better off driving her to a nearby emergency room, dropping her off, and fleeing. So that's what they do, piling into Sean's car. Of course the journey doesn't go as they'd planned. It never does in films like this. And the whole time, Sean is cranky that the odyssey is interrupting their planned epic journey through seven parties at Greek organizations, and Kunle is flipped out because he forgot to close the refrigerator at the lab that contains samples of cultures he's studying. The trip takes them into a variety of situations that illuminate the state of racially and politically charged campus life circa 2022, as well as off-campus life. At one point they stop at the home of Sean's older brother, who just got paroled from prison, and the straitlaced Kunle is so anxious at being out-of-his-element that he can barely speak to them, and has to be ordered to sit down. The group are tailed throughout the night by Emma's sister Maddie ( The best thing about "Emergency" is its willingness to let a scene breathe and play out at length—a rare quality in an era in which entire movies are edited like trailers for themselves, as if terrified that if they take the foot off the gas for even an instant, stimulus-craving audiences will...

The dedicated members of Squad 51 of the Los Angeles County Fire Department's newly created Paramedical Rescue Service take on a series of life-or-death challenges in this drama filmed in semi-documentary style. Partners John Gage and Roy DeSoto put their lives on the line to save people from all sorts of mishaps. I loved this show and even love it now. Thank you so much for posting this! I love looking at the fashions, the cars, the whole 70s feel from when I was growing up. Very nostalgic. Another thing that struck me and made me look it up: Billy May did the composing for the music for this series. It sounded somewhat familiar with the horn section... like another show.. and sure enough, he also did Batman the series with Adam West. The musical style was so similar it just struck a note (ha!). So if you watch that show, listen at the fight scenes... it will sound similar in style (or maybe it is just my imagination.)
