EXPLAINED: How can India qualify for WTC final after drawn AUS

South Africa managed to stay alive in the race for a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final after drawing the third and final game against Australia. While Australia have all but qualified for the summit clash, it has left three teams fighting for the remaining one spot, how does this result affect India's chances, let's take a look. South Africa's PCT currently stands at 48.72 and they have a two-match series at home left against the West Indies. Should the Proteas win both games, their PCT will rise only to 55.5, which means Australia are through more or less.. Thus for South Africa to have hopes of qualifying for the final, they would want Australia to keep winning, but it will be a huge challenge to do that for Cummins and Co., especially in the sub-continental conditions. For India, on the other hand, they too can't take their position lightly. Yes, Australia have done them a favour by beating South Africa in a couple of games. India's PCT currently stands at 58.93. If they win one out of four matches, the PCT will be 51.39, 56.9 if they win two and 62.5 if they win three. Hence, Team India will have to win at least a couple of matches against Australia to ensure that they are in the WTC final for the second consecutive time. There's a fourth team, Sri Lanka too in the fray. However, they have a tough ask of beating New Zealand in New Zealand, that too in both the Tests they play there to have a chance, which looks difficult at this point as they haven;t bea...

Here's how can India qualify for the finals of 2023 World Test Championship; have a look at latest standings

Following India’s yet another statement-making win over Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series, they have inched closer to sealing the direct qualification for the finals of the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC). As announced by the ICC earlier, the finals of the second edition of WTC will be played on a neutral venue - at the Oval in London this time from June 7th to 11th with 12th been kept as a reserve day. However, for India to qualify for the finals of the World Test Championship, they just have to win one of the remaining two Tests. In one case if India wins the series 3-0 or 4-0, they will not...

India made a more than a decent start to their innings and despite having lost three wickets, they are in with a chance needing 280 runs to win with Virat Kohli unbeaten on 44 and Ajinkya Rahane continuing from where he left off in the first innings, scoring a magnificent 89 on Test comeback. Can India chase this down? Surely, because the required rate is not a factor. However, having messed up a few run-chases like that in the past being in dominant position and then losing it all with a collapse, the belief isn't 100 per cent given they will be up against an Australian attack, which will be hungry to pounce before the Ashes series. As per clause 16.3.3 of the WTC playing conditions, “If the match is drawn, ti...
