Indore: The death toll in Indore temple stepwell collapse has increased to 35 on Friday morning as the search operation to trace persons reported missing after the tragic incident was on. Several people fell into a well as roof of Shri Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple caved in during Ram Navami celebration in the He added, "The administration had to face a lot of trouble in the rescue operation. The accident occurred due to the collapse of the roof over the well. During the hawan, more than 50 people fell into the well. Out of which 35 people have died. Indore, May 2 (PTI) A 58-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing two people and injuring two others by running over their two-wheeler while driving under the influence of alcohol in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city, police said. Ajit Lalwani, a local businessman, was arrested for running over four people riding a scooter on the city’s YN Road late on April 29, said Kamlesh Sharma, in-charge of Tukoganj police station. Sandeep Gupta (45) and five-year-old Advik Gupta were killed in the accident, while two other children were injured, he said. The police had earlier registered an FIR under section 304-A (death due to negligent driving) and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code, and they have now added section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), the official said. Lalwani was produced before a local court on Tuesday evening and has been remanded to judicial custody, he said. Meanwhile, visuals of the accident have gone viral on social media, in which the accused is seen getting out of the car and standing on the side after the accident, while the victims are seen lying on the ground. We are trying to remove the water from the well using motors and machines and are checking if people are trapped in the mud," the district collector told TOI. All the injured, including a few children, were sent to a private hospital in Bhanwarkuan area where they were undergoing treatment. Police said that a few of them were in a critical condition. Pushkar Patel, an eyewitness who helped in the rescue operations, said, "As the slab caved in, the devotees fell into the water and some clung to the hanging debris of the concrete and iron mesh, to save themselves. We heard a loud noise as the slab caved in and rushed to rescue the devotees. We threw ropes and were trying to save them when police and administrative officials arrived.
