District collector Ilayaraja T said 14 bodies were recovered. As many as 19 people were rescued. Several feared trapped; rescue operations on "Manual checks have been carried out by the team. We are trying to remove the water from the well using motors and machines and are checking if people are trapped in the mud," the district collector told TOI. All the injured, including a few children, were sent to a private hospital in Bhanwarkuan area where they were undergoing treatment. Police said that a few of them were in a critical condition. Pushkar Patel, an eyewitness who helped in the rescue operations, said, "As the slab caved in, the devotees fell into the water and some clung to the hanging debris of the concrete and iron mesh, to save themselves. We heard a loud noise as the slab caved in and rushed to rescue the devotees. We threw ropes and were trying to save them when police and administrative officials arrived. Many of my neighbours and distant relatives were at the temple when the accident took place," he said. People gathered at the temple in large numbers to initiate the rescue operations.
