Shri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga

Whom am I to review such a holy place. Writing here to give a word of caution. We tried booking online VIP ticket but was not available. We went to the shrine and you are then approached by certain people who promise VIP darshan. We took one such gentleman who promised for VIP darshan for 1100/-. Tickets 300 per person So we were 2, 600 for ticket and rest was his service fees that you can negotiate. He helped us in darshan. However, I felt one could just directly go to VIP ticket counter and proceed to the line. The counter is near the shoe stand. Temple is old and beautiful. 1. Need to cross a bridge by walk and then pass through the bazars to reach. No proper written signs or directions are available. Need to ask locals. My car was parked and from there I walked about 20 mins to go near the temple. Old people can opt for carriages. 2. Lots of Purohit will approach you to give you vip darshan. No need for that. I went on a Friday ( amavashya) and finished the darshan in less than 30 mins. 3. The constructed walking path was dirty, dusty needs serious cleanup. 4. There is no queue Management. Men women children in the same line, which is very very inconvenient. 5. I missed the place to keep my shoes inside temple. No direction and arrows. If you buy flowers, shops will let you keep the shoes. 6. Mobiles and small bags are allowed. But no photo/videos inside the temple. Though I did not see any security stopping anyone. 7. Temple is smaller and shiva is behind a glass encl...

Omkareshwar Temple

Omkareshwar Temple Omkareshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to God Shiva. It is one of the 12 Omkareshwar temple is the main attraction of the pilgrims at Omkareshwar. Omkareshwar owes its very existence to the temple. As to who constructed the temple and when, is all shrouded in mystery. The sanctum sanctorum containing the Jyotirlinga seems to have been originally a small temple of the old construction style, the dome being made of layers of stone slabs and not of circular cut stones. As this temple is too close to the precipitously deep bank of the Narmada to the south, the great extension is of new construction style. This is the reason why the sanctum sanctorum and the main deity are neither in the front of the main door nor below the higher conspicuous Shikhar or the tower of later construction. According to legend, Narad (son of Brahma), once visited the Vindhya parvat and told him that the Meru parvat was larger. This made Vindhya parvat jealous. Out of determination to be taller than Meru, Vindhya parvat began praying to the Lord Shiva to bless him and make him taller. As a result Lord Shiva was pleased and blessed him with his desired boon.on a request from all the gods, Lord Shiva divided the linga into two parts, one in Omkareshwar and the other in Amareshwar. He granted Vindhya parvat his boon that he would never stop growing but in return Vindhya should not cause any problems for the people. But Vindhya dishonoured his promise. He soon obstructed even the sun a...
