MUMBAI: Twelve days after the car crash on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, gynaecologist Dr Anahita Pandole underwent her first surgery on Thursday. Doctors at RN Reliance Hospital performed a pelvic reconstruction surgery to treat the complex fractures. Doctors said the pelvic reconstruction procedure was carried out to correct the anatomic defect caused by the accident, improve function, and avoid further complications. Sources added that 55-year-old Anahita had suffered fractures on both sides of the pelvis and one hip, which were addressed during Thursday’s procedure. The pelvis is a ring of bone at hip level, made up of several separate bones. The hospital said that given the complex fractures sustained by her, the opinions of experts from the US, UK and Europe were sought. Dr Peter V Giannoudis, the chairman of the academic department of trauma and orthopaedics surgery at University of Leeds, UK, has been flown in to work with the Indian doctors. Mistry (54) and his friend Jahangir Pandole were killed in the car accident in neighbouring Palghar district of Maharashtra on Sunday.
