Indonesia Open 2023: Lakshya Sen decimates Lee Zii Jia to set up 2nd round

By India Today Sports Desk: World No. 20 Lakshya Sen on Wednesday, June 14 stormed into the second round of men's singles at the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament after decimating former Asian champion Lee Zii Jia in straight games. Lakshya needed just 33 minutes to beat the 8th-seeded Malaysian 21-17, 21-13 in Jakarta. Lakshya Sen, who had been struggling for form at the start of the 2023 season, has sparked hopes of a resurgent run. The former All England finalist looked sharp and got his speed up to the mark as he did not give an inch to Lee during the one-sided first-round match. Meanwhile, qualifier Priyanshu Rajawat also made it to the second round after his opponent Kunlavut Vitdisarn handed a walkover due to injury. Piryanshu will face 2nd seed Anthony Ginting of Indonesia in the next round. It will be a big test for Priyanshu who won the Orleans Masters Super 300 tournament earlier in the year to make a mark on the tour. However, there was disappointment in women's singles as Akarshi Kashyap lost in straight games (10-21, 4-21) to in-form An Se Young of South Korea. It's been a good start for Indian shuttlers in Indonesia Open as PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy and the doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty moved into the second round while Gayatri Gopichand and Jolly Treesa lost in the first round of women's doubles.
