Mubarak Shah Khilji

Mubarak Shah Khilji (मुबारकशाह खिलजी) (died 1320) or Qutb-ud-din, at the age of 18, was originally appointed regent to his younger six-year old brother, the king. Within two months, Qutb-ud-din blinded his brother and ascended the throne. He began his rule by releasing thousands of prisoners and abolishing all taxes and penalties imposed by his father. Qutb-ud-din was the weakest ruler of the dynasty. Qutb-ud-din was murdered by Khusro Khan in 1320, which ended the Khilji dynasty. History : The decline of the Slave dynasty, made Delhi Sultanate even more fragile and instable due to the numerous revolts and internal aggression. And this started the Khilji dynasty with the crowning of Jalaluddin Khilji by the nobles in the year 1290 A.D. Jalaluddin Khilji was the first Indian ruler of the Khilji dynasty, who ruled from 1290 - 1294 and invaded India by building his capital in Delhi, though he never really ruled from there. His capital was constructed at Kilokhri where he ruled for around 6 years. During this period Mongols attacked the country, Jalal-ud-din Khilji's brave front and smart negotiations marked the Mongols defeat. They came back however, five years later and attacked once again when his nephew ascended on the throne. Qutb-ud-din Mubarak Shah Khilji was the son of Ala-ud-din Khilji. He had escaped destruction at Malik Kafur’s hands, and became the third Sultan of Delhi. Mubarak Shah began his reign well. He repealed the harsh regulations of his father restored the confiscated lands to their owners and abolished his father’s system of price control. A rebellion having broken out in Gujarat, he sent his officer, Ain-ul-Mulk, to suppress the revolt. Gujarat was soon reduced to submission. March to Deccan: Mubarak himself marched into the Deccan and defeated a King, who had revolted against him. His Death: Under Mubarak, the administration of Delhi became unstable. The Sultan left the conduct of the State affairs in the hands of Khusro Khan. This favorite was a willing agent of the monarch in all his vices and crimes. At last in 1320, he murdered Mubarak Shah and seized the throne. Successor of Qutb-ud-din Mubarak Shah: After his death, Khusro Khan assumed the title of Nasir-ud-din Khusro Shah.
