7 great new horror movies to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu and more in June 2023

Shudder kicks off the month of frights on June 9th with the fascinating Brooklyn 45. This is a unique post-war supernatural movie that actually runs in real time as a group of friends take part in a seance. One of the men has lost his wife to suicide, convincing the rest of the group to try and make contact with the other side. The only problem is that when they do, they quickly discover that everyone at the table has secrets of their own, and the dead won’t let them forget. Don’t expect this chamber piece to be jump-scare central. That won’t be where the true horror lies. (Image credit: Hulu) When: June 15 Where to stream it: Hulu We don’t know a huge amount about Jagged Mind overall, but Kelley Kali’s Hulu Original will get its world premiere at the American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach before debuting on Hulu on June 15. Maisie Richardson-Sellers is Billie, a woman constantly suffering from blackouts and hallucinations. The unique thing here though is that she discovers she is stuck in a series of time loops and it all might be related to her new girlfriend, played by Westworld’s Shannon Woodward. Surely someone should really put that on their Tinder bio…? Infinity Pool When: June 23 Where to stream it: Hulu If you’re looking for further proof of the impending world domination of Mia Goth, look no further than Brandon Cronenberg’s latest trippy horror. Alexander Skarsgard is James, an author hoping to cure his writer’s block as he travels to sunnier climes with hi...

19 Most Anticipated Horror Movies Coming Out in 2023

, along with Fresh, a cannibal thriller, and Get Out is the only to be awarded at the Oscars in recent memory) , in recent years the genre has arguably become one of the most reliable in the industry; movies like Barbarian were surprise hits on low budgets, and Get Out's director Jordan Peele is able to draw hits on his name alone, with Horror, at this point, is more stable than previously reliable genres like romance or comedy, which now find themselves in a struggle to find footing in an industry that's all but done away with the mid-budget movie. Horror thrives in indie studios and small budgets. Horror is the underdog of genres, and year after year it surprises us with new ways to both scare us and make us empathize with the terrifying and strange situations various characters experience. 2023 is set to be another great year for all kinds of horror thrills and chills. The year is starting off strong with the viral M3GAN managed to recoup its budget and then some, with over $30 million in ticket sales in the film's opening weekend, as The New York Times reports . Later in the year, we'll have a number of star-studded films, including Beau Is Afraid (starring Joaquin Phoenix), Cuckoo (with Hunter Schafer), and The Parenting (with Parker Posey, Edie Falco, and Brian Cox). Notably, The Parenting is one of the many horror-comedies coming out this year. It's too early to say if they'll deliver an equal amount of laughs and scares, but in case you're looking for a break from ...

Horror Movies and Series Coming to Netflix in 2023 & Beyond

Illustration by What’s on Netflix Welcome to another genre preview of all the horror movies and series Netflix currently has in development set for release in 2023 or beyond. It’s worth noting that horror is a genre that hasn’t been among Netflix’s strongest genres in recent years, with traditional distributors like Universal and Paramount having a much better track record in the genre. Of course, it’s a crowded space, with even niche streamers like Shudder taking up much of the bandwidth. That’s with one notable exception: Korean horror output. Netflix is excelling in this arena with the region producing some excellent horror and that shows no sign of slowing down. 2022 did see the release of several horror titles on Netflix, some of the Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, The Curse of Bridge Hollow, and Choose or Die. Pictures: Getty Images Lee Daniels is directing this new horror thriller that will star Glenn Close, Omar Epps, and Rob Morgan. It’s about a family home in Indiana that seems to be haunted by some demonic creature, and after digging a little more, they find out their house is a portal to hell. No release date has been set for The Deliverance and it wasn’t included in the 2023 release schedule, but we’ve got the sneaking suspicion that it might slip in. Bioshock Read our preview for Bioshock here.
