Poco F5 review

The Poco F5 is the more affordable model out of Poco's new F5 series, and it is a direct successor of the Poco F4 from 2022. It starts at $379 for its base variant, going up to $429 for the higher-spec option. Despite having no "Pro" in its naming, the vanilla F5 takes quite a bit from its more expensive sibling. So much so that it might make you wonder whether you should pay the extra cash. On paper, the Poco F5 appears to have the same camera setup, maximum RAM and charging speed. That's three areas that overlap here. That being said, there is notable difference in the processors and the display. There is also the fact that wireless charging is non-existent in this spec sheet. Plus, since the phone is made out of plastic, it is relatively lighter. Specs Poco F5 Size and Weight 161.1 x 75 x 7.9 mm (6.34 x 2.95 x 0.31 in),181 g (6.38 oz) Display 6.67" AMOLED, 120Hz, 1080 x 2400 pixels,1000 nits peak brightness Processor Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 (4 nm) RAM, Storage and Price 8/256:$379 12/256:$429 Software MIUI 14 / Android 13 Cameras • 64MP main • 8MP ultra-wide • 2MP macro • 16MP selfie Battery Size 5,000mAh Charging Speeds 67W wired, no wireless charging Unlike the more pricey model, the Poco F5 comes in a plastic body that is a bit boxier, with flatter edges all around. Since it is made out of plastic, it is also quite lightweight for its size, coming in at 181g. The camera design is a bit funky, but I wouldn’t call it odd or bad-looking. On the right side of the phone you w...

Poco F5 Review: Proper Poco Power

Verdict The Poco F5 is another strong mid-range phone, with excellent performance for the money and a very good AMOLED display. Add in a relatively refined design, and it’s a clear improvement over the Poco F4. However, a stagnant camera system, the ever-unlovable MIUI 14, and an unwelcome price bump temper some of those encouraging elements. Key Features • Large 6.67-inch display The Poco F5’s 6.67-inch OLED display is big, bright enough, and colour-accurate – perfect for watching video content. • Solid Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 performance Coupled with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the Poco F5 runs advanced games almost as well as a flagship phone – but for half the price. • 67W fast charging capabilities With fast charging capabilities, the Poco F5 can go from flat to 47% in just 15 minutes. Introduction The headline for the 2023 Poco F-series might well be the return of the Pro line after three years out, but let’s face it: more people will be eyeing up the plain Poco F5. While the Poco F5 is even more value-focused than the Xiaomi has stepped up into an altogether more competitive league with its latest performance-focused mid-ranger. Does it have the chops to compete? Design and Screen • More refined design than before • Slim and light • Strong 6.67-inch AMOLED display The Poco F5 Pro might have a number of eye-catching components, but I prefer the Poco F5’s design. Its squared-off edges, shimmering (but not shiny) back, and discrete camera module look and feel mor...

Poco F5 and F5 Pro Review: Just Okay

The gap between mid-range and high-end smartphones has slowly been closing. Spend around $400 on a phone and you can expect a gorgeous screen, a good camera, and enough grunt to run the most demanding mobile games. The features that set the top phones apart are often The same holds true for Xiaomi's Poco F5 and F5 Pro. If you are looking for weaknesses, you won’t find them on the spec sheet. These phones pack in everything you need at an attractive price. But the trade-off for this impressive hardware is generic, forgettable design and messy, confusing software. Bloatware and ads lurk beneath the surface. Sure, you can push them under with a bit of work, but is it worth the effort when strong alternatives are so abundant? Mid-Range The Poco F5 and F5 Pro are almost exactly the same size. The F5 Pro is a touch bigger and heavier, with a curved glass back sliding into a thinner frame. It’s funny how a little extra weight gives a phone a more expensive feel. The F5 has a trio of round lenses, much like the latest phones from Samsung and Apple, but the F5 Pro has a more pronounced rectangular camera module with a metal surround, which looks a bit dated to my eyes. Both have a USB-C port and SIM tray on the bottom edge, but only the F5 finds room for a 3.5-mm audio jack up top. They are relatively lightweight and easy to use one-handed. The F5 has a fingerprint sensor in the power button, while the F5 Pro has an in-display fingerprint sensor. Both worked swiftly and reliably fo...

Poco F5 review: A compelling midrange option

Cons • Come camera quirks Xiaomi and Xiaomi-related brands have been on a roll this year. The company’s flagship phones have been pushing the boundaries in mobile hardware, offering among the best camera performance while retaining an excellent level of performance. Their flagships are pretty impressive too. But through the Poco brand, which both companies claim is an independent company, Xiaomi is completing the trifecta with great midrange MIUI devices that don’t make major sacrifices. The new Poco F5 is a great example of this. The device certainly isn’t groundbreaking, but it boasts excellent performance and a solid camera at $379, which is a reasonable price. You won’t get flagship performance, but you’ll get close. You won’t get top-tier cameras, but you’ll get close. And, you won’t get the best display, but you’ll get…close. How close? Close enough — but the Poco F5 isn’t necessarily an instant home run. Poco F5 design The Poco F5 sports a sleek and contemporary design, embracing the flat-edged look that has become increasingly popular over the past few years. Its lightweight and scaled-back design contributes to the phone’s overall appeal, making it comfortable to hold and easy to carry around. The front of the device features a 6.67-inch display with a hole-punch cutout in the middle, which provides an almost bezel-less viewing experience for users.
