New Delhi, Apr 11 (PTI): Riding on his title-winning run at the Orleans Masters Super 300 tournament, India’s Priyanshu Rajawat jumped 20 places to achieve a career-best world ranking of 38 in the latest BWF rankings issued on Tuesday. The 21-year-old from Madhya Pradesh clinched his maiden Super 300 title after beating Denmark’s Magnus Johannsen 21-15, 19-21, 21-16 in the summit clash to accumulate some valuable ranking points. He is now the fourth-best ranked Indian men’s singles player in the BWF rankings with 30,786 points. Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen, who is currently on a break, moved up a spot to 24th, while Kidambi Srikanth lost two places to slip to world No. 23. HS Prannoy continues to be the best-ranked men’s singles player at No. 8. In the women’s singles, PV Sindhu, who had reached the final of Spain Masters, slipped two rungs to world No.11 once again, while Saina Nehwal moved to world No.31. The men’s doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty remained static at world No. 6, followed by the combination of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila at 27th. The women’s doubles pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand slipped a place to world No. 20, while the mixed doubles pair of Tanisha and Ishaan Bhatnagar are ranked 29th in the world.

After winning his maiden BWF World Tour Super 300 title at the Orleans Masters on Sunday, India shuttler Rajawat’s win in France helped him jump 20 places to achieve a career-best world ranking of 38. In the final, Rajawat, who was part of the 2022 Thomas Cup-winning side, beat Denmark’s World No. 49 Magnus Johannesen 21-15, 19-21, 21-16. ADVERTISEMENT “What made my victory memorable was the fact that my idol Gopi sir [Pullela Gopichand] praised me for my win. I felt on top of the world. Since this is my first major title of my career, it will remain special. My short-term goal is to ensure that I do not let my rankings fall and enter the Top 15 in the next three to four months. In order to do that, I want to work on my body strength and improve my strokes. The next three tournaments that I will play are Malaysia Masters [May 23-28], Thailand Open [May 30-June 4] and Singapore Open [June 6-11],” said Rajawat, who has been a trainee at the Pullela Gopichand Academy since he was eight. HS Prannoy continues to be India's best-ranked men’s singles player at No. 8. Kidambi Srikanth lost two places to slide to World No. 23 while Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen, who is currently on a break, moved up a spot to 24th. The 21-year-old Rajawat is now India's fourth-best ranked Indian men’s singles player in the BWF rankings with 30,786 points. Priyanshu defeated Kiran George 21-18, 21-13 in the first round and beat Japanese shuttler Kenta Nishimoto 21-8, 21-6 in the subsequent round to progress to the quarterfinals. He squared off against Chinese Taipei's Chi Yu Jen in his quarterfinal match and triumphed with a straight-games win. He won by an identical 21-18 margin to storm into the semifinals. The 21-year-old dominated the semifinals too as he staved off a challenge from Irish badminton player Nhat Nguyen 21-12, 21-19 to advance to the final. NEW DELHI: Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen on Wednesday cruised into the second round of the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 event in Jakarta. Facing off against Malaysia's Zii Jia Lee, Lakshya secured a one-sided straight games win. Ranked 20th in the world, Lakshya triumphed over Lee 21-17, 21-13 in the contest that lasted just 32 minutes. Lakshya will next face compatriot Kidambi Srikanth, who beat Guang Zu Lu of China 21-13 21-19 in his first round match. Another Indian Priyanshu Rajawat got a walkover from Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand to seal his place in the next round. Rajawat, however, has a tough second round tie as he set to face the winner of the match between Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittnghus of Denmark and second seed local shuttler Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. The other Indian in men's singles fray is HS Prannoy who will take on Hong Kong's Angus Ng Ka Long in the second round. However, it was curtains for young Indian female shuttler Aakarshi Kashyap as she crashed out in the opening round of women's singles.
