As per the Hindu calendar, Chaitra Purnima is the first purnima after the start of New Year. On this day, people also observe Hanuman Jayanti in several places. As per beliefs, people who observe fast of Chaitra Purnima and worship Lord Vishnu and Moon are bestowed with the divine blessings of the deity. People on this day make charity by donating food, clothes, money and other essential things to those in need. Taking bath in holy river is also considered very auspicious and it is believed that the wishes of devotees are fulfilled if they offer their prayer with true devotion. Many communities observe one day fast as per their Kul Parampara (family traditions passed from generation to generations).

2023 Sharad Purnima Sharad Purnima is one of the most famous Purnima(s) in Hence, worshipping God Chandra on the day of Sharad Purnima is considered very significant. It is also believed that the moon rays on the day of Sharad Purnima drip nectar. Hence to take advantage of this divine phenomenon, traditionally on the day of Sharad Purnima, Rice-Kheer a famous Indian sweet dish made of cow milk, rice and sugar, is prepared and left in moonlight for the whole night. In the morning, Rice-Kheer which is believed to be invigorated and fortified with the moonlight is consumed and distributed as Prasad in family members. In Brij region, Sharad Purnima is also known as Raas Purnima (रास पूर्णिमा). It is believed that on the day of Sharad Purnima Lord Krishna performed Maha-Raas, the dance of divine love.
