Rains delayed in Bengal: Temperature crosses 40 degree mark

By Dipaneeta Das: Amid an ongoing heat wave, the Regional Meteorological Department (RMS) on Monday predicted that Kolkata is expected to witness scorching temperatures above 40 degrees for the second time this season. Meanwhile, the weather department added that there is no sign of rain in the coming week, confirming that there is no sign of immediate relief from the sweltering heat. “Due to the prevailing dry north-westerly wind over the region, there is lack of water vapour in the air, thus, eliminating any chance of rain in the week,” Ganesh Kumar Das, Director, of Alipore Meteorological Department said in a press meet on Monday. The meteorologist, in the forecast, warned that the existing heat wave–like conditions will continue till June 10, extending from June 7. “The scorching conditions will continue until June 10, further increasing the hot and uncomfortable conditions over West Bengal,” Das said in weather bulletin.
