Jalaluddin Firuz Khilji was the first Sultan of the Khilji dynasty and ruled for six years from 1290 to 1296. At the age of 70, he assassinated the last descendant of the Slave Dynasty and declared himself Sultan of Delhi Sultanate. He was slain by his nephew Alauddin Khalji and ascended the throne.



The Khilji or Khalji dynasty ruled from 1290 to 1320 CE after overthrowing the Slave dynasty, thus becoming the second dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. They were Turko-Afghans who came from Afghanistan with Muhammad Ghori. Khaljis were the vassals of the Mamluk dynasty of Delhi. The founder of the Khilji dynasty was Jalaluddin Khilji (1290-1296).



In the year A.D.1290 one Jalaluddin Khalji after dethroning the weak sultan of the slave dynasty, Kaiqubad, captured the powers and laid foundation of the Khalji Dynasty. Alauddin Khalji [A.D.1296-1316] Early career and Accession Alauddin was born in A.D.1266. His early name was Ali Gurshap.

Balban died in 1287. He was succeeded by his useless grandson Muiz Ud Din Qaiqabad. Muiz Ud Din Qaiqabad appointed a noble called Jalal-ud-din Firuz as his Ariz-I-Mumalik. Ariz-I-Mumalik is head of the military.
