Matrix is the ground substance. Cells are far apart and the matrix also has fibres inside it. This tissue structure is seen even in blood and bone. In blood there is a lot of matrix (fluid) present in which cells are floating far apart from one another.The matrix which is also called plasma in bllod has proteins (fibrinogen) in dissolved form.
