New Delhi: Maharashtra minister Eknath Shinde along with some other Shiv Sena MLAs from the state are allegedly camping at a hotel in Gujarat’s Surat city. This comes a day after the Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) faced a setback in the Maharashtra Legislative Council polls. The MLAs, who are said to be disappointed with the leadership, arrived in Surat on Monday night and are camped out at the Le Meridian Hotel. “Some Shiv Sena MLAs, including Maharashtra Minister Eknath Shinde, are in Surat,” a source said. A large number of police personnel have also been deployed outside the hotel. MUMBAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won five of the ten legislative council seats in Maharashtra on Monday while in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) —NCP and Shiv Sena secured two seats each and Congress managed to secure one seat. BJP’s fifth candidate Prasad Lad secured 28 votes and won the election. Last week Fadnavis had ensured the win of all the three Rajya Sabha candidates. State BJP president Chandrakant Patil said the party secured 134 preferential votes. The party has 106 MLAs besides the support of seven other MLAs. He fully credited Fadnavis for the BJP’s victory. The opposition leader said he didn't not believe in miracles. “It is the discontent within the MVA that has come to the fore and converted into votes,” said Fadnavis. He hugged Girish Mahajan, the party MLA from Jalgaon, as he came down to speak to the media. MUMBAI: The new Eknath Shinde government in Maharashtra sailed through the trust vote in the state assembly on Monday, with 164 MLAs voting in its favour and 99 MLAs siding with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The MVA received eight votes less than it had in the election for the state assembly speaker a day earlier. In a blow to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Backed Shinde at cost of losing CM job to end MVA’s graft: BJP BJP has said that the party forged an alliance with Eknath Shinde in Maharashtra and accepted him as chief minister at the cost of Devendra Fadnavis’s claim for the top job because of its desire to bring down the “unprincipled and opportunistic” MVA coalition which was engaged in massive corruption.
