15 of the Best Sketchbooks That Beginners and Professionals Love

Like a close friend, you'll spend a lot of time with it and tell it your inner thoughts (through drawing, painting, and writing). Many artists will regularly fill their pads with a bevy of drawings. Some are so polished that their books feel like Photo: Selecting the right sketchbook is a personal choice. There are a few big considerations you need to take when buying a sketch pad. 1. The size that you like to work in. If you draw a lot, you’ll notice that there’s a scale at which you naturally sketch. Maybe it’s smaller than a quarter or you prefer to take up the entire page. Or, perhaps it’s somewhere in the middle. Take stock of this when selecting a sketchbook. If you like to draw big, make sure you pick something that can handle large art. With miniature drawings, you can opt for something much smaller in size. 2. Where will you be using this sketchbook? Another aspect to determine is where you intend to draw. For sketching at home, the size won’t matter as much—your book doesn’t have to travel. But if you intend to draw on the road, it’d be wise to select a scale that will fit comfortably in a backpack. 3. What media will you use? It’s important to decide what media you’ll use in your sketchbook because it will determine the type of paper that can best handle your art. For pencil and colored...

Welcome home, Sketchbook — Sketchbook

We’re excited to announce that the app formerly known as Autodesk SketchBook has spun off and is now Sketchbook. Wait, what? The Sketchbook app has a long history, but it was always just one part of a bigger company. First of Alias|Wavefront and later Autodesk, where it grew from desktop to mobile and tablet and became beloved by over 10 million people around the world. Now Sketchbook is the company. We’re an independent entity, wholly focused on the app, its users, and its future. So what’s changing? Our team has been part of Sketchbook’s past, we deeply value the legacy of the app and the loyalty of its fan base (though yes, we did get rid of the capital ‘B’ in the name). We’re going to build on that legacy, embracing everything that a sketchbook can be in supporting creativity, art and expression. We’ve got a roadmap of updates planned, many of which are based on requests from Sketchbook users. And some new ideas too, which we look forward to sharing soon. But first we want to make sure this transition is smooth for the millions already using Sketchbook on Android, iOS, Mac and Windows. The apps will move from Autodesk to Sketchbook in the platform stores over the upcoming days. As Sketchbook starts this new chapter, we want to thank the team at Autodesk for their incredible support throughout this process. It’s been quite a journey and they have worked tirelessly every step of the way, with their #1 goal to make sure Sketchbook users are supported and nurtured through ...

New free brushes! — Sketchbook

New free brush sets are now available for Sketchbook Pro! While the team is busy working on the next updates, we thought now would be a great time to get some new brush sets out to you while you wait (plus, creating new brush sets doesn’t require taking a developer off feature work 😬). We’ve added a Marker set for those who miss the old markers, and some blending brushes that apply the same effects and layer blends only with a brush. Play around with them and see what you might do! We also added in a few sets that were previously only available on the mobile app. All these brushes are now available in a visual library on our Extras page - making it easier to see what each set is and how you might use it. You can download the brush sets either directly from the Extras main page, or click through to see a preview of the full set. And yes, for those on mobile we’re working on bringing brush import/export to the mobile app too. This work is already in progress and you can expect to see it in iOS and Android updates coming later this year.
