ERIC CLAPTON

Would you know my name If I saw you in heaven? Would it be the same If I saw you in heaven? I must be strong And carry on 'Cause I know, I don't belong Here in heaven Would you hold my hand If I saw you in heaven? Would you help me stand If I saw you in heaven? I'll find my way Through night and day 'Cause I know, I just can't stay Here in heaven Time can bring you down Time can bend your knees Time can break your heart Have you begging please, begging please Beyond the door There's peace, I'm sure And I know there'll be no more Tears in heaven Would you know my name If I saw you in heaven? Would it be the same If I saw you in heaven? I must be strong And carry on 'Cause I know, I don't belong Here in heaven

It is an arrangement by H. des Bouvrie. It's somewhat different from the other tabs of this song that people have posted. However, some parts do sound more like what can be heard in the original version of the song than the other tabs, primarily the sliding bit. Anyways, I thought it might be fun for people to be able to play the song in a different way. It's not too difficult, at least not more than the other versions. First you need to know, this is not transcribe of original version. I made this tab because i like this song and i thought its a pity that Eric in acoustic version using mostly just three fingers instead four. This version using mostly higher position of IMA fingers and swiching PMA counter I. Thats the main idea. Some chords had to be extended too, because using one more string. I hope that someone like it. You can check it as cover at youtube. [ 6 ] tab

Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton is an English Rock and blues guitarist, songwriter and singer. He is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – once as a solo artist and twice while being a member of the bands “the Yardbirds” and “cream”. Clapton has also been referred to as one of the most important and influential guitarists of all time, ranking second in the “Rolling Stone” magazine’s most important and influential guitarists of all time. He has also sold over 130 million records worldwide, and won 18 Grammy awards throughout his musical career. “Tears in Heaven” is one of the Clapton’s most heartbreaking songs, based on the tragic death of his Conor, who was only four when he died after accidentally falling from a 54 story apartment. The track was written during Clapton’s 6-month hiatus from music after this devastating event and has three verses and a bridge. The first verse is Clapton singing to his son about whether if he would recognise or know him if he saw him in heaven, and whether it would be the same if he was in heaven too – but he knows that he has to “be strong and carry on”, because he can’t “stay here in heaven”, meaning he can’t spend his whole life mourning over the loss of his son or just focusing on that, he has to move on. The second verse is Clapton asking his son if he would still “hold his hand” and “help him stand” if he saw him heaven, maybe alluding to Clapton seeking forgiveness from his son. Again, Clapton reiterates that he’ll get through...

Eric had the first verse of the song written, which, to me, is all the song, but he wanted me to write the rest of the verse lines and the release ("Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees..."), even though I told him that it was so personal he should write everything himself. He told me that he had admired the work I did with In an interview in 1992, Clapton said of the song, "It was in the back of my head but it didn't really have a reason for being until I was scoring this movie ... then it sort of had a reason to be.
