The Last Ship

At the helm of the USS Nathan James en route to the Arctic, Capt. Tom Chandler learns that the destroyer will be in the best possible place -- a circumstance his crew must utilize -- to save humanity from extinction. A virus has wiped out more than half the population since the ship embarked, and despite orders from the U.S. government to return, Chandler -- believing home is now a shadow of itself -- decides the safest place to develop a vaccine is at sea. That task falls mainly to virologist Dr. Rachel Scott, a civilian originally assigned to the Nathan James to study birds. "The Last Ship" is based on a novel by William Brinkley and is executive-produced by filmmaker Michael Bay ("Transformers"). Sports Seriously It's official: The Hall of Fame tight end hosted his last episode Tuesday, ending his tenure on the popular FS1 morning show. "Skip Bayless, you fought for me. I'm here because of you. You've allowed me to share the stage with you. You allow me to share the platform," Sharpe said. "The opportunity that you gave me, to become what I became, I'm forever indebted to you. I'll never forget what you did for me. You've helped me grow more than you ever know." Shannon tears up as he thanks Skip Skip Bayless: Shannon Sharpe was 'a worthy adversary' Bayless also got emotional when reflecting on their time on the show, thanking Sharpe for taking a chance with him despite the criticism the show faced in its beginnings. "When I first took this job back in June of 2016, we had a whole other format in mind. When it came clear Shannon Sharpe is available and I said I believe he can do this, and did you ever," Bayless said. "I want to thank you for dedicat...

'Lost' Finale Explained

My high school statistics teacher was one of the first people to entertain my love of television. He was also the first to tell me about a show called Lost that debuted on ABC in September 2004. Having missed the whole first season and some of the second, he burned me bootleg DVDs to watch over spring break. By the time I came back, I was hooked. I followed Jack and Sawyer and Kate and Sun all the way to the end of the series, and I remember watching the finale episode in my sparsely furnished college apartment with a pizza and a bottle of wine. I remember crying. I remember thinking that the final moments—the church and the reunited cast and a Vincent (Vincent!) laying alongside a fatally injured Jack —was simply beautiful. But when I asked my stats teacher his thoughts, Mr. Milani was fully against it. He hated that the finale barely tried to answer the questions. Milani was decidedly a man of science, not of faith. That's a big undertaking because Lost's disappointing series finale is as iconic as the show. At the time it aired—on May 23, 2010—fans famously did not understand what the hell had happened when Jack died on that island and was suddenly in a church with all his other dead friends. Were they really dead the whole time? Why didn't it ...
