207 people died and over 900 more were injured after a passenger train hit the derailed coaches of Coromandel Express in Odisha's Balasore district. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh for those with serious injuries and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries. By Ajay Nath, Indrajit Kundu, Anupam Mishra: 207 people died and over 900 more were injured after a passenger train hit derailed coaches of the Coromandel Express, which runs from Shalimar station in West Bengal to Chennai, in Odisha's Balasore district on Friday evening. A goods train was also involved in the accident, as per Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena. WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR A Railway official said several coaches of the 12864 Bengaluru-Howrah train travelling to Howrah derailed at Bahanaga Baazar in Balasore district and fell on adjacent tracks. The 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, which was coming on those adjacent tracks, collided with the derailed coaches of the earlier train and its coaches capsized too. Odisha's Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena said the collision also included a goods train. The Railway official said the derailed coaches of the Coromandel Express hit the wagons of the goods train.
