The impact of cyclone 'Biparjoy' will be visible in Rajasthan from June 15, said the Regional Meteorological Centre on Tuesday. According to the weather department, the cyclone may affect 12 districts of the deserts. Consequently, warnings have been issued to ensure safety during Biparjoy's voyage towards Rajasthan. Considering the fast-approaching cyclone's intensity, the Railways have partially and fully cancelled the operation of more than a dozen trains going from Rajasthan to Porbandar, Bhuj, Okha, and Gandhidham in Gujarat. As per IMD, the cyclone is expected to touchdown between Gujarat's Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts by Thursday, June 15. After landfall, this system is predicted to de-intensify gradually into a deep depression over parts of Gujarat and a low-pressure area over southwest parts of Rajasthan. Under its influence, extremely heavy to very heavy falls may lash Southwest Rajasthan on June 16-17 — however, there's very little possibility of cyclone-related damage over the state. Furthermore, experts predict a reduction in the cyclone's wind speed as it makes its way to Rajasthan. However, persistent high moisture levels may induce heavy rains (60 mm to 100 mm) in many places for two days. On June 16, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Barmer and Jalor may receive extremely heavy to very heavy downpours, while Bikaner, Pali, Rajsamand and Sirohi will likely witness heavy rains. However, on June 17, extremely heavy to very heavy downpours may spread to...

Men who helped cops nab Udaipur tailor's killers yet to get security cover, says Rajasthan BJP leader

By Press Trust of India: Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan Assembly Rajendra Rathore on Friday accused Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of not fulfilling his promise of providing security to the two men who had helped the police nab the culprits in the Udaipur tailor murder case last year. The BJP leader also raised questions over the tendering process for the procurement of smartphones to be provided free of cost to women under a state government scheme. Rathore along with Rajsamand MP Diya Kumari produced Shakti Singh and Prahlad, who had helped the police arrest the two men who had killed tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur in June last year, at a press conference. The leader of opposition said these two men worked in Gujarat's Surat but were sacked by their employer following the incident, citing security reasons. After killing Lal with a cleaver at his shop in Udaipur, the two assailants fled on a motorcycle. Shakti Singh and Prahlad identified them on the basis of information circulated by police, chased them and helped the police catch them in Rajsamand. Rathore also questioned the tendering process for the Rajasthan government's free smartphone scheme for women and claimed it will turn out to be a "big scam". He demanded that the tenders for the scheme be given to women.
