Choti Diwali 2020 date: Puja Muhurat, significance, when and how to celebrate

When is Choti Diwali celebrated? This year, Choti Diwali falls on November 13, and Diwali on 14th. Choti Diwali is the second day of the five-day-long festival of Diwali. It is celebrated a day ahead of Diwali. However, this year the timing of Choti Diwali and Diwali coincide. The propitious time of Abhyanga Snan on Choti Diwali happens from 05.23 am to 6.43 am. Rituals related to Choti Diwali The celebration of Choti Diwali varies with different regions. As part of the Choti Diwali ritual, puja will be performed with oil, flowers, and sandalwood. Coconuts will also be offered to Lord Hanuman and Prasada of sesame seed, jaggery, and rice flakes (poha) with ghee and sugar. The rituals of Choti Diwali are symbolic of the origin of Diwali as a harvest festival is performed. On this day, sweets will be prepared from pounded semi-cooked rice. Rice used for preparing the dish will be from the fresh harvest available at that time. This custom is common both in rural and urban areas of Western India.

Tamil New Year 2024, 2025 and 2026

On Tamil New Year, it is traditional to decorate a symbolic tray with such items as mangoes, bananas, jackfruit, betel leaves, jewellery, coins, mirrors, and flowers. This tray is often the first thing a Tamil sees when waking up to a new year. A second notable tradition is the making of intricate, coloured rice-powder designs called “kolam” on one’s floor. Tamils spend much time together as families on New Year’s Day, and they enjoy a traditional meatless feast. Children are expected to show respect for elders in return for a blessing. People will also clean their houses and visit local Hindu temples. One of the main events for Tamil New Year is the Chitterai Porutkaatchi exhibit at the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai. But there are many smaller, local events to attend as well.
