Federal and state regulation, licensure, and national accreditation constitute branches of external evaluation of quality in birth centers. Licensing protects the public by monitoring compliance to codes, ordinances and a variety of regulations. Some states and municipalities are very specific and uniform in the level of requirements for safe operation, but others are nonspecific or vary in their requirements which may or may not be relevant to birth centers. The standards and attributes for national accreditation are uniformly applied in all localities, thereby eliminating state and local inconsistency. Meeting the standards of accreditation indicates to clients, states, health and liability insurance agencies, consulting providers, and hospitals that a birth center has met a high standard of evidence-based and widely recognized benchmarks for maternity care, neonatal care, business operati...

About

American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC), which is based in Farmington, New Mexico, has been organizing amateur baseball since it was founded in Chicago in March 1935. Its first national tournament was held in Dayton, Ohio in September that year, when only 10 states were a part of the organization. Today, some 240,000-plus players from 42 states, Puerto Rico, and Canada play in the AABC. Approximately 112,000 of them are in their teens, making it one of the largest amateur baseball organizations in the United States for players in that age range. AABC conducts state, regional and national competition in seven age divisions: Roberto Clemente (8 and under); Willie Mays (10 and under); Pee Wee Reese (12 and under); Sandy Koufax (14 and under); Mickey Mantle (16 and under); Connie Mack (18 and under); and Stan Musial (unlimited age). Additionally, five national competitions are held in single age divisions. AABC believes in local autonomy, by allowing organizations to have their own local rules through the state levels. They can bat as many players as they want, have time limits, re-entry, and inning limits to meet local conditions. When post-season arrives, all teams and tournaments must then conform to national rules. AABC has one of the largest contingents of Major League players, currently approaching 1000.
