Describe a person who is from a different culture

[You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.] Model Answer 1: I have always been interested in meeting people from different cultures and customs from all over the world except, of course, I don’t really often get that opportunity. After all, I live in a rather small town, and that too in a remote corner of my country, which doesn’t always get frequented by any foreign travellers or tourists except on some rare occasions. And it is during one of those rare occasions that I met “Ben Emanuel”, and today, I would like to talk about him. But, I didn’t really meet him in my own, little town. Rather I met him in one of the largest cities in my country, which I was visiting about a few years ago when I went there to buy a portable “air cooler” for my family. Incidentally, I had to spend a day at a hotel there, and it was at that time that I met him while sitting in that hotel lobby. Interestingly, when I met him, he was wearing a jersey of the Argentina national football team except he was wearing a trouser instead of a “half-pant”. As soon as I noticed his jersey, I thought that he was from Argentina, and needless to mention, I was proved right. So, I immediately said “hello” to him and introduced myself. At first, he was a bit hesitant to open up to me, but when I said how I was a “die-hard” fan of the Argentina national football team, he became happy...

Her name is Sofia, and she’s from Florence, Italy. She’s an exchange student at my university, and we met in an English class last semester. Actually, we sat next to each other on the first day of classes, and she immediately introduced herself and we became fast friends. First, a little more about her. She’s a freshman like me, and this is her first time living in my country. In terms of her personality, she’s quite extroverted and approachable, and she’s got a great sense of curiosity – you know, she’s always asking interest...

Note: You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish. Model Answers and follow up questions to describe a person you know who is from a different culture IELTS Cue Card: Model Answer 1: Introduction: Well, it is not uncommon these days for people to make friends from different cultures and the credit goes to globalisation and improved technology as there are no geographical boundaries today. Who he/she is? and Where he/she is from? and How you knew him/her? I have made many friends who are from different cultures but one I would like to talk about here is Jason. Jason is an American and I found him on a chatting platform where one day I was trying to find an English-speaking person to chat to and this is something I often do to improve my English ability. We become friends in no time. The fact is that Jason is equally interested to travel to India. So, during this chat, he asked me many things about India and the places to visit in India. Now, we have become good friends and we frequently chat during this time, chatting with Jason I got to learn a lot about American culture. For example, I have learnt that he is only 18 and he is planning to travel to India alone. Because he has saved and earned money on his own for this trip which is quite surprising for me because in India children remain dependent on their parents for quite a long. Now, another th...

First, decide on a person, then think of a few things to say. This might be difficult for some people. Not everyone will be able to immediately think of a person they know who dresses well. If you can’t, you’ll have to make up a person and then try your best to describe them. Vocabulary Before we go any further, I want to look at the sort of vocabulary you might need here. For this cue card, we’ll no doubt need to say a little about Note that the cue card asks us to talk about the “ kinds of clothes this person likes to wear.” Obviously, it would be good to be specific here, but “kinds” tells us that we could get away with being a little vague. (Update 2023) Describe a Person You Know Who is From a Different Culture IELTS Cue Card

Well, I remember it was a few months ago I had an argument with my classmate Jessica. She is from Europe and we met each other in the college. On that day, we were having dinner with a couple of other classmates, and one of them arrived and gave me a gift. Simply, just because I did her a favor a couple of days ago. The gift was well packed, so I put it in my bag after I took it and just at the moment Jessica looked at me in surprise and asked me why I didn’t open it straight away. I was confused about that question as well, but I told her that I would open it later. And then, Jessica stopped eating and seriously asked me to open it straight away, and she said it was impolite not to open it in front of everyone. I was like where does that come from right impolite? so it was really embarrassing and I never did this before. I mean, I always unpacked the gifts I received after I got home because I think sometimes people do not want others to know what they said right. So I had an argument with her. I seriously told her that I wouldn’t open it right away. I didn’t think it was impolite. Instead, I thought it was polite not to open it immediately. She then explained to me that in her country everyone would open the gift in front of others, because in that way people could express why they choose this gift and also they can get the feedback from the receiver. Then, I realized that actually we had a culture shock. So I also explained to her that in China we didn’t do what she sai...
