Chhattisgarh: Senior BJP leader Narayan Chandel's son booked for rape

RAIPUR: An FIR was registered on Thursday against Palash Chandel, the son of Chhattisgarh leader of opposition Narayan Chandel, for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage. The woman, who works as a teacher, alleged that Chandel promised marriage but raped her and forced her into an abortion when she got pregnant because of it. She had submitted a complaint to the state SC/ST Commission in Raipur a few months ago. The commission investigated the complaint and on Thursday handed it over to police. A zero FIR was lodged in Mahila thana of Raipur and the case file was sent to Janjgir police for further action. The woman also went to the police station and filed a complaint. Palash has been booked for rape and under SC/ST atrocities (Prevention) Act against the accused. Narayan Chandel is the legislator from Janjgir constituency and was appointed LOP in August last year.

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 9 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in the Chhattisgarh assembly, Naryan Chandel on Tuesday demanded the resignation of state Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and said that liquor scam unearthed by Directorate of Enforcement (ED) is one of the biggest corruption cases in the country. “The liquor scam unearthed by ED is one of the biggest corruption cases in the country, therefore CM Bhupesh Baghel should immediately resign from his post,” Naryan Chandel said. He further mentioned that the accused Anwar Dheber who is arrested by ED in the case should undergo a Narco test. “Anwar Dheber and others linked to this case should be subjected to the Narco test as it will expose the details of money transaction,” he said. “The people of Chhattisgarh want to know where the money has gone which they amassed from coal and liquor scams. CM Baghel should come in front of the public and must give a detailed explanation. If this money would have been used in development works, Chhattisgarh would have headed towards progress but it was spent to appease political masters,” he added. This scam has overshadowed the fodder scam of Lalu, Chandel mentioned. Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday appointed its three-time MLA Narayan Chandel as the new legislative party leader in the state assembly, replacing Dharamlal Kaushik. Chandel was first elected as an MLA in the undivided Madhya Pradesh assembly in 1998. Police officials on Friday said that he was on the run for more than two months. Palash, held on Thursday night, was released on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 25,000 as he had secured anticipatory bail from the Chhattisgarh High Court, he added. He was arrested by police in Janjgir-Champa district, said the district's Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Soni. Narayan Chandel is the MLA from Janjgir Champa constituency. The HC had granted anticipatory bail to Palash on April 4. A case was registered against Palash in the state capital Raipur on January 19 after a woman teacher from a tribal community in Janjgir Champa district accused him of sexually exploiting her for several years by promising to marry her. The complainant also claimed that Palash forced her to have an abortion. A case under Indian Penal Code sections 376(2)(n) (committing rape repeatedly on the same woman) and 313 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent) besides the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered against him.
