Shri Ekling Ji Temple, Udaipur

Eklingji Temple is one of the most popular ancient temples of Rajasthan. It is around an hour drive from Udaipur. Eklingji Temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. On the way return from Kumbhalgarg through Haldighati, we visited the Eklingji temple in the afternoon. However, unfortunately entry to the temple was closed for darshan by the time we reached there, hence we had to offer the prayer from the outside. It is advisable to check the temple timing before visit. Architecture wise the temple from the outside is not well visible. The temple is situated at the side of a main road, several road side shops, selling puja offering, souvenir items etc. are available nearby. Wish we could enter the temple, nevertheless better luck for the next time. The temple is 20+ km away from Udaipur. If you are driving from Jaipur to Udaipur, you would find it on the way. If your happen to go to Udaipur, do not miss this. A must visit. Such a marvelous ancient temple. Believed to be built in 6th or 7th century. The view of the temple sanctum tower is mind blowing. The sculptures on the walls of the temple is simply superb and beyond your imagination. The uniqueness of this Shiva temple is that, it has the face of Shiva and not a Linga. That to 4 faces! Eklingi temple is the personal place of worship of the Royal Family of Mewar ; this may explain all the security, barricades and restrictions. When I arrived I learned it did not open till 10.30 am ; by then there's a huge line of devotees, s...
