It is an inter-state planning and development region with the National Capital Territory of Delhi being its centre. The region covers the entire region of Delhi, with seven districts from the state of Uttar Pradesh, 13 districts from Haryana and two districts of Rajasthan. Among all these districts, the capital region of India, New Delhi acts as the hub or core of the NCR. Prominent cities under the National Capital Region include Delhi, Ghaziabad and Noida from Uttar Pradesh and Faridabad and Gurugram from Haryana. History and establishment of NCR The planning board for the National Capital Region was established under the National Capital Region Planning Board Act of 1985. The Act defined Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sonipat, Rewari, Bulandshahr, Muzzafarnagar, Ghaziabad, Meerut and some portions of Alwar in the NCR. When it was established, the region covered nearly 35000 square kilometres. With time, newer regions such as Noida, Bhiwani, Mahendragarh in Haryana and Bharatpur in Rajasthan were included in the region. In 2015, three other districts namely Jind, Panipat and Karnal were included covering a total of 55,083 square kilometres.
