NIRF 2022 Law Rankings: Top 2 Spots retained by NLSUI & NLU

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), released by the Ministry of Education, Government of India has come out with its Top 30 Law School rankings for the year 2022 out of the 147 participating institutions. In the category of law, the top 2 spots have been retained by the same colleges as last year – National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore and National Law University, Delhi. The third spot has been bagged by Symbiosis Law School, Pune, by making an impressive leap of 6 positions from last year and pushing NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad to the 4th position. Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University, Bhubaneshwar has made a debut in the list of top 10 colleges at a promising rank 9. Lovely Professional University made a first appearance in the top 20 law colleges at the 13th position while BHU entered the list at rank 20. With other colleges sliding up and down the rankings by a few points to accommodate the leapers and debutants, the list this year has seen a little but significant change! The ranking listed India’s best law institutes acrossfive parameters: • Teaching-learning and resources, • Research and professional practice, • Graduation outcome, • Outreach and inclusivity, and • Perception. NIRF Rankings 2023: NLSIU, NLU Delhi and NALSAR top the list of best law schools in India

National Law University, Delhi remains unmoved in second spot while NALSAR, Hyderabad has been ranked third. This year's top three mirror the While Symbiosis Law School (SLS), Pune was ranked third in 2022, it is ranked sixth this year, after West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata and Jamia Millia Islamia which are currently ranked fourth and fifth respectively. The only other National Law University (NLU) making it to the top 10 this year is Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar, in seventh. Siksha O Anusandhan goes one rank higher at number 8 as compared to last year's position. IIT Kharagpur goes three ranks below and stands at rank 9. For the first time, Babsaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow has made it to this list and stands at rank 10. The NLUs featuring in the top 30 law schools include National Law Institute University (NLIU) Bhopal [18th], Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala [20th], Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) Lucknow [21st], National University of Study & Research in Law (NUSRL) Ranchi [24th], National Law University and Judicial Academy (NLUJA) [28th] Kamrup and National Law University, Cuttack [30th].
