Review of Not Another Teen Movie

Part homage, part roast, and all raunch, Scary Movie seem like kid¿s stuff. And even that would be an understatement.Utilizing the core plot structure of She's All That (which, in effect, was nothing more than a modern teen reworking of Pygmalion), NATM proceeds to skewer just about every teen movie ever made, focusing specifically on the John Hughes staples from the early ¿80s, but also tossing in references to more modern fare such as American Beauty and Final Destination. In fact, part of the allure of the film is trying to guess where all the references come from. In this respect it would make a great collegiate drinking flick, you know, every time you guess what film a character, situation or slice of dialogue is taken from you have to swig a beer. Not that I'm advocating binge drinking, but this is the type of movie that¿s ripe for such debauchery.Speaking of debauchery, the screenwriters (and there were like 10 of them; okay, there were only really five credited, but that¿s still a lot) spare no expense in this department, going for pure trash laughs with comedic bits involving vibrators, loads of fecal matter, Tourette¿s spouting cheerleaders, incest, lesbian tendencies, anal sex, and more apple pies than mom ever made. In addition to all the gross-out hijinks, NATM goes for all the self-referential nostalgia, so much so as to include modern rockstramental interpretations of all the ¿80s classics by Soft Cell, Psychedelic Furs, and Modern English. To top it all off...

Chris Evans Has Thoughts On His Role In Not Another Teen Movie And They May Surprise You

Not Another Teen Movie was one of Chris Evans’ first big film roles. The 2001 comedy parodies tons of '80s and ‘90s 10 Things I Hate About You, She’s All That, and Varsity Blues. Chris Evans plays Jake, the “Popular Jock” stereotype and is part of many of the movie’s most memorable scenes in which he strategically covers his body in whipped cream (and To say that’s not something we’d expect Steve Rogers to star in would be a bit of an understatement. But it doesn’t seem like Chris Evans is particularly embarrassed by his performance in Not Another Teen Movie. When he recently saw a image of the whipped cream bikini scene, he was all smiles as he offered a bit of perspective on his role in the movie (via You do what you gotta do to earn your stripes. At the time, I was so thrilled to be a part of the movie it didn’t even cross my mind that it was some sort of like a artistic compromise or something. I thought it was hilarious at the time. To be fair, it is pretty hilarious and, as far as first big film roles go, it could be a lot worse. Plus, it says a lot about Chris Evans that even back then, he didn’t take himself too seriously -- and he was willing to put himself (and his butt -- quite literally) on the line to get his foot in the door. It also shows that he’s got a good sense of humor about his earliest career moves. After all, few actors can say they have a perfect filmography.

Not Another Teen Movie (2001)

Genre Synopsis At John Hughes High School, the students are the same as just about every other teenager in a teen movie. The popular jock, Jake (Chris Evans), takes a bet from Austin, the cocky blonde guy (Eric Christian Olsen), that he can transform Janey, the pretty ugly girl (Chyler Leigh), into the prom queen before the prom. But two people are trying to stop Jake from succeeding: his evil sister, Catherine, the cruelest girl in school (Mia Kirshner), and Priscilla, the bitchy cheerleader (Jaime Pressly). And all of their friends are the same as any other teen movie: Areola, the naked foreign exchange student (Cerina Vincent), Les, the beautiful weirdo (Riley Smith), Malik, the token black guy (Deon Richmond), the desperate virgins (Cody McMains, Samm Levine, and Sam Huntington), Amanda Becker, the perfect girl (Lacey Chabert), Ricky, Janey's obsessed best friend (Eric Jungmann), and Sadie, the very old undercover reporter (Beverly Polcyn).
