Yamaha becomes the latest major manufacturer to pursue electric sales

1 of 4 Yamaha have planted their flag in the move to electric with the unveiling of two scooters, one pedelec (which is a bit of a licence weirdo for us) plus three electric bicycles. This isn’t Yamaha’s first giant leap towards electrification: they unveiled the Like most big manufacturers heading into electric, Yamaha think the immediate future is people buzzing around town rather than heading for the hills. Related articles on MCN • • • “The concept of mobility has continuously evolved over the years, and consequently our cities and infrastructures have adapted to these changes,” says Eric de Seynes, Yamaha’s European President. “However, one thing that has remained the same over the decades is the universal desire and need for personal mobility that gives a real sense of freedom.” Both scooters Yamaha have shown are developments of their two concepts from the Tokyo Motor Show in 2019. The first one we’ll see fully in just a couple of weeks is the NEO’s (nope, we’ve no idea about the apostrophe either…), which is based on the E02 concept. The NEO’s is designed to be a 50cc equivalent with removable batteries aimed at commuters. The original concept used similar running gear to the Gogoro Smartscooter 2, which has a pair of 9kg batteries under the seat, giving it a 60-mile range. The Smartscooter 2 weighs just 112kg, with an 8.5bhp electric motor that gives it a top speed of 58mph. The genius of the Smartscooter is that Gogoro have installed a huge network of battery swa...

Yamaha unveils fresh

We knew that Yamaha was going to have a big unveiling coming up soon as part of Perhaps the star of the show was the most radical looking two-wheeler on stage, the Yamaha B01. The eye-catching truss frame creates a step-through bike that fits nicely in the electric moped category with its large street tires and mid-mounted electric motor tied to a pedal drivetrain. In fact, the bike looks so good that it even conjures up memories of another recently revealed electric bike, the As it turns out, Yamaha appears to have partnered with Fantic, resulting in the Issimo finding its way onto Yamaha’s stage adorned with a new Yamaha badge. Whatever it’s called, the bike certainly embodies a fresh new design to challenge many of the same old recycled moped designs we’ve seen over the years. Yamaha floated specs of up to 45 km/h (28 mph), making this a speed pedelec in Europe (similar to a Class 3 electric bike in the US). It definitely sounds like Yamaha plans to bring the B01 concept to life. As President of Yamaha Motors Europe Eric De Seynes explained: “Its future will become true sooner. We will start the production of this vehicle within one year, beginning in 2023.” It’s hard to say what motor and battery Yamaha plans to put in the B01. The Fantic Issimo came with a Bafang M500 mid-drive motor in the urban version of the bike, and the company paired it with a 630Wh battery. Yamaha very well may want to use its own brand of motor instead of opting for Electric bikes for gravel, ...

YAMAHA R7 (2022

Updated: 13 April 2023 Who is the new If that’s the case, is a 72bhp parallel twin really going to cut the mustard on the road and track, or be enough for bragging rights down the pub? • Related: Or will the R7 be for newer, younger sportsbike fans, who haven’t had anything made for them in donkey’s years, except for the long-in-the-tooth supersport bikes that now no longer exist for the road? But will it give them the kind of thrills we had back in the day when we discovered the joy of our first big bike? One thing’s for sure, they won’t mind that Yamaha has dug up the old R7 name, or remember it from the first time around, anyway. In fact, the Yamaha R7 is for everyone and neatly proves you don’t always need lots of power and tech to enjoy yourself. Sporty, friendly and with a voracious appetite for corners, it’s the perfect machine for new riders to start their sportsbike journey when it’s full licence time. Its relative lack of straight-line performance and basic spec may put some off and the brakes could be better, but the R7 is all about the purity of riding while not scaring yourself silly. It’s well built, handsome and comfortable, but best of all affordable: half the price of an R1, twice as fun on the road. Yamaha Europe Unveils New Electric Scooter And E

On March 3, 2022, Yamaha Motor Europe presented a total of six new electric two-wheelers, including a couple of concepts. Three of them were e-bikes, two more were concepts, and one is a production-ready electric scooter with a full launch expected in the next few weeks. Let’s take a peek at what’s in store. The first thing you might notice is the color choice for Yamaha’s electric line. While Yamaha has long used its signature blue color to distinguish itself from other motorcycle manufacturers, Yamaha Motor Europe says it chose this new aqua color for its electric line because it combines blue with green. Simple enough, right? Yamaha also pulled the covers off the long-awaited, production-ready electric NEO’s scooter. It’s based on Yamaha Trademarks E01 Nameplate For Upcoming E-Scooter As for the two concepts, the E01 is clearly a modern scooter design, but with a slightly different face to its combustion Yamaha Europe contemporaries, the TMAX, XMAX, NMAX, and D’elight. It was clearly designed as a cousin, meant to bear a family resemblance that tells you they’re related, while still maintaining its own distinct identity. The plan for the E01, Yamaha Motor Europe president and CEO Eric de Seynes said, is to have a ridesharing trial in a yet-to-be-named major European city. That will serve two purposes. Yamaha will learn more about what urban riders want out of a 125cc-equivalent electric scooter, and users in that city will get to experience this new scooter before anyon...
