Two big format IKEA stores are operational in Hyderabad and Navi Mumbai. A city center store opened in Mumbai in Dec 2021 and another one will open in 2022. Along with Retail, IKEA Purchasing, IKEA Foundation, IKEA investment, Ingka centres, Global Business operations (GBO) and other entities are investing in India to create an even bigger impact as ONE IKEA. IKEA has been sourcing from India for over 35 years, working with around 60 suppliers, 45,000 direct employees and 400,000 people in the supply chain in India producing for IKEA stores worldwide. Ingka Group, the largest IKEA franchisee operates 465 IKEA stores, shops, and planning studios in 32 countries, 47 Ingka Centres meeting places. New Delhi: Ikea, the Swedish furniture retailer opened its first outlet in Bengaluru on June 22. Since then, residents haven't been able to keep calm and have turned up at the store in hundreds. The store, located in the city's Nagasandra area, witnessed long, meandering queues on the weekend. People had to wait in queue for around three hours and it became difficult for the security to manage the crowd. By India Today Web Desk: IKEA, a leading Swedish home furnishings retailer, opened the doors to its largest store in India so far, at Nagasandra in Bengaluru today. The Nagasandra Store in Bengaluru is IKEA's fourth store in India. The IKEA store in Nagasandra is spread over 12.2 acres, the 4,60,000 sq. Ft. The three other IKEA stores are located in Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, and Worli City Store, respectively. With a planned investment of Rs 3,000 crore in Karnataka, IKEA is expecting to attract close to 50 lakh visitors this year in Bengaluru, the company said. The store will also house one of the largest children’s play ‘area ‘Småland’ along with a 1,000-seater restaurant and a bistro serving a mix of Swedish and Indian delicacies IKEA’s newly-opened store will be connected to the Nagasandra metro station in the northwest part of Bengaluru. This big-box format facility was supposed to open in 2020 but got delayed due to the pandemic.

IKEA to open store in Bengaluru on June 22

BENGALURU: The store will be connected to the Nagasandra metro station making the store accessible for the many people of Bengaluru. CEO of Ingka Group, of which IKEA is a part, Jesper Brodin on Wednesday met Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai at the World Economic Forum Meet in Davos, Switzerland, and held discussions in the backdrop of the store-opening. The India head office of IKEA is in Bengaluru and issues related to extensive use of bamboo and other locally available raw materials in making of furniture came up for discussion during the meeting, it said. Industries minister Murugesh Nirani, IT, BT minister C N Ashwath Narayan, additional chief secretary in the department of industries E V Ramana Reddy, chief minister's principal secretary N Manjunath and commissioner in the department of industries Gunjan Krishna were present. The company had earlier said the store in Bengaluru would be IKEA's third in the country after Mumbai and Hyderabad. Fob To Connect Nagasandra Metro Station And Ikea Store

At present, the average daily footfall at Nagasandra station is around 13,000. Ikea is also constructing a foot overbridge (FOB) from its store to the station located on Tumakuru Road. The FOB, which will give direct connectivity between the station and the Ikea store, is expected to be ready in a few months. In 2017, BMRCL had generated Rs 251 crore by leasing 13 acres to Ikea India Pvt Ltd near Nagasandra on Tumakuru Road for 60 years. BMRCL managing director Anjum Parwez said the utility is happy to be a facilitator in bringing Ikea to the city. “It is a win-win situation. Metro is a convenient and faster mode for those visiting Ikea since it is located next to Nagasandra station. We are expecting more footfall once the store is open.” BMRCL charges Rs 30 per piece for baggage that weighs more than 15 kg or which exceeds 60 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm in dimension. "We will allow all furniture items/ products that pass through the baggage scanner at the station,” said Parwez. This is the third IKEA outlet in the country after Hyderabad and Mumbai. Spread over 12.2 acres, the 4.6 lakh sq ft IKEA Nagasandra store will have more than 7,000 home furnishing IKEA products.
